Good News! When it was on the lift you could see that the anti-roll bar had come out of its housing. Two minutes and it was back in its housing and a couple of twist of a wrench and I backing the Z off the lift and driving away.

Couldn’t believe my luck! The noise was quite bad!

The first part was a description of the fault and the second its probable cause and somewhere in the middle is a request for a possible reason. I'm taking it to my local garage tomorrow.

The roads around here are terrible at the moment even new sections are loosing their surface.

It happened to me when the hood was resprayed. They asjusted the mounts there and then but a little gap can open between the hood and the door. You are right to be anoyed its a 2 minute job.

I had the same problem after I pranged the side door and had it replaced. When I got it back it wouldn't lock in the same way you have described.

I took it back to the body shop and the guy put his finger into the lock on the body and twiddled and its worked perfectly ever since.

You should keep both hands on the wheel and this can be achieved by putting your right elbow on the car door rest while maintaining your grip on the steering wheel. I suppose that might not be possible for most, as I am quite small.
