Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
Do you notice any difference in differential noise? In the Coupe I imagine it's more likely to change more than the roadster. Is it via OBD? If you concentrate you can hear a slight diff noise, though it's not noticeable most of the time. Similarly, there's a slight increase in vibration though it'...

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
The subframe bushes have been replaced with Powerflex purple poly bushes and whilst there's a minor difference to the ride quality, it's certainly not harsh. The tail still wiggles when the rear crosses transverse ridges on curves (such as bridge expansion joints) but the rear is more precisely cont...

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
Wow, is that price for just inserting the bushes or for the whole job? I've been quoted more than twice that for just labour for it all.Del wrote:I used a local BMW specialist who had a special support jig and commercial puller - cost around £100 to insert the main beam bushes, which I bought myself.

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
I wouldn't bother with poly for rhe the trailing arms but defo worth it for the beam and diff mount. My z3m caught me out a few times when on the limit. With solid bushes it's lots more predictable when you lose traction and a safer car. Thanks, hadn't thought too much about the diff mount. Will ch...

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
I'm around the 20 mark now for Z3 rebuilds and the only real bit that makes me nervous every time is removing the 4 m6 cap heads (2 each side) that hold the beam plate in place. If you round these heads they are a pain to get to, the fuel tank is inches away. You might need to look at the exhaust b...

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
Yes, I did, as well as polybushing the front control arms. I didn't replace the trailing arm bushes but I believe that the recommendation is to replace those with original bushes as polybushes tend to start squeaking after a while. Thanks for confirming. I've also fitted polybushes to the front and...

Re: Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
I've also done it. Getting the old bushes out is a bit of a pain, but other than that it's very straightforward. I'm not really sure what the chap is concerned about, unless you have significant corrosion underneath? Seems like a strange concern for a mechanic, unless he normally only works on bran...

Great. How did you get on, any problems removing the beam or old bushes?
Did you replace the trailing arm bushes too? Were there any problems, and did you use ordinary or eccentric bushes?

Replacing rear beam bushes: 3 questions for you
My Indie is concerned about replacing the rear beam bushes on my year 2000 2.8 in case the bolts holding the beam are corroded, snap when being dismantled. and have to be re-drilled and tapped, thus taking a lot of time and costing me more money. Does anyone have experience of changing the bushes an...

Re: Cost of replacement Dual Mass flywheel?
Bob, I'd be surprised if your backlash problem is the flywheel as I'd have expected it to make a rumbling noise if it's that badly worn. When the DMF packed up at 90k miles on my 2.8 I replaced it with a solid flywheel and clutch kit from Eurocarparts for about £500 though sometime there are 30% dis...

Re: Dual Mass Clutch Failure "Symptoms"
When mine went it made a deep rumbling noise that sounds like your engine's main bearing are worn. The noise sounds so much like run bearings that even when I noticed the noise stopped when the clutch was pressed, I believed it was caused by knackered crank end float bearings, until connecting a pre...

Rear subframe and trailing arm bushes
Can someone suggest a garage or mechanic who can replace the rear subframe and trailing arm bushes with polyurethane ones on my z3 2.8? I'm based in Swansea but prepared to travel to a recommended supplier with a good price.
Thanks!

Re: What is the normal ride height?
Hi, thanks for your reply, my car hasn't been lowered so I'll buy either Eibachs or H+Rs. Btw, whilst it's true that height varies with wheel size if you measure from ground to wheel arch or lower rim to wheel arch as suggested by BMW in the documents you've linked, I deliberately asked for the meas...

What is the normal ride height?
I plan to lower my 2.8 but looking at photos of other cars mine seems lower than normal.
Before I buy springs would someone please do me a favour and measure the distance from the centre of their road wheels to the wheel arch above.
Thanks

Re: Anyone tried borbets A
Protruding wheels may be fashionable to some, but they will gradually flay the paint off the wings, and are also illegal - is it worth the potential trouble just to be fashionable? Mile, the op was asking for advice about the size of wheels that will fit within the arch. By measuring how much a whe...

Re: Anyone tried borbets A
So from your trial fit it seems to prove that the maximum offset for Z3 is about ET 38. ET8 + 30mm that they stick out = 38 With a 9" wide rim, you are correct. However, there is a small wheel arch lip of about getting 8mm, and the wheel arch splash hard will need to be trimmed for maximum cle...

Re: Anyone tried borbets A
Here's a trial fitting of my Remotecs - 9x17 ET8mm. There are 25mm spacers already fitted so without those the rear tyres would poke out by about 30mm http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s149/y_cymro/84e9093804238a0b88d828f7d002a2bf.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s149/y_cymro/5bc9c7ead9cf5620...

Changing big end bearings
I need to change the big ends on my m52tu28 and due to the documented problems with some z3ms thought I'd ask here whether it's possible to do without removing the engine.
It would be great if someone could confirm and describe the process.

Re: High pressure power steering hose needed for a 6 cylinde
Thanks Dave, but I'm in the same position as you - the double flare at the end of the steel pipe has fractured.
I need the complete hose assembly or just the steel end which can then be crimped onto the existing rubber hose.

Newbie alert asking about LSD
Hi! This is my first post and I hope it doesn't offend if I start with a question. I'm about to fit an M50 engine and E36 gearbox into my E30 and need a suitable diff replacement to match the direct drive top gear. I've read that the Z3 2.8 has my ideal 3.15 ratio and my question is do they all have...
