Re: Emulsion Removal
Nobody has mentioned 'thermostat'. They are often the cause of sludge on the oil filler cap. Is the temp gauge getting to the normal centre position after a couple of miles? If not I would certainly suspect the thermostat. Cheap, easy fix.

Appologies if this is an old chestnut but I can't see anything about it. My 2000 2L Z3 locks on the remote key with a flash of the indicators but no sound. It unlocks on the remote key with no sound or flash. Is this right??

Thanks for the info. My system is one piece from the manifold joints but there are no oxygen sensors after the cats and so sign of wiring that I can see. I will need to do some work on my exhaust before the next MOT and I'm finding some slightly strange things. I've owned my V reg 2.0 litre for about 10 years and I'm fairly sure it has the original exhaust. Looking at RealOEM the exhaust part numbers for the 2.0 litre are the same as for the 2.8 litr...

Gearbox oil, again!
I’ve completed the gearbox oil change using Westway MTF-LT-2 bought from Ebay for £8.99 a litre which is cheap. You can see the spec which matches RealOEM and appears to have the same viscosity as the old oil. This oil is synthetic which the original oil certainly wasn’t. To be fair though the old o...

False alarm! After loosening the retaining screws and giving everything a 'shake to locate' all is fine. I did a similar thing with my passenger door about 5 or 6 years ago and that has been OK since. I wonder how many actuators have been replaced that didn't really need it.

Are Z3's getting rare already? Just returned from a week in Cornwall (not in the Z3) and I didn't see any Z3's at all, a couple of Z4's and that was it. When you look at the prices of complete cars and the prices of used spares it's a wonder that any cars get sold and are not all broken for parts.

I may have missed it but nobody has mentioned the thermostat. The temperature gauge should go to the middle of the dial very quickly. If you only hear the noise when the engine is cold at about 1800 rpm it is almost certain to be a Vanos problem. A combination of slight wear in the thrust bearings, slight wear in the helical splines linking the Vanos to the camshafts and the almost certain failed Vanos seals. I did several posts a...
