it could be the water pump ive known some where the impeller comes lose and dont drive properly ive not known it on bmw's before normally on the vw's and audi's but its a possibility

my 2.0 had very similar symptoms and although my EML was not on i plugged it in at work to find i had one error stored exhaust cam sensor open circuit so ran it up the road with live data runing and found that after a few mins the signal dropped out, so replaced the sensor and it cured the juddering...

Thanks yalden just spoted them, will keep an eye on them but i cant see the little airbag badge on the door card did the older model not have side airbags?
