Squeal on startup - advice sought
Hi all and a happy new year to everyone. For a while now I've had an annoying squeal on startup from cold, it's worse in the winter, lasting for maybe 30 - 60 seconds, but in summer probably only lasts for 10 - 20 seconds. After these periods the squeal just suddenly cuts off, like somebody has flic...

I've now realised there were a probably a couple of other signs that I missed, the first was every now and then I would get a slight wiff of petrol (especially under acceleration), perhaps this was the extra fuel being injected to compensate for the leaner mixture? You need to check the sealant around the edge of the membrane carefully as well, the smallest hole and the water will leak through. I also replaced the sealant around the membrane, spoke nicely to the man at BMW and he gave me a load for free

Another place to check is the membrane behind the door card, I had similar problem and there was a slit in the membrane allowing water to get through to the footwell. Did a temporary repair with gaffer tape but eventually replaced the membrane with a new one, no problems since.

I've got the same problem at the moment, think it may be the seal between the bottom of the hood and bodywork needs resealing.
