Chap having a drink with his wife: "I love you" says the man. "Is that you or the beer talking" says his wife. "I was talking to the beer" replies our chap... And one for techies... A wife asks her husband, a software engineer; "Could you please go shopping for me ...

Wow, some serious bikers on here. I worked as a bike mechanic (Honda workshop) from 1975 to 1986 before I had to find something that paid more. I have a ZZR110 in the garage next to the Z3 which replaced the Harley Road King. Missus insisted on something comfortable, hence the Harley, then insisted ...

Speaking as a biker (Kawasaki ZZR1100), acknowledging a fellow rider with a discreet nod, is pretty much obligatory. Sur le continent bikers wave with their legs! As for Zed drivers, I've never seen another owner wave or flash. And I've just realised I have the same letter in the model name of both ...

I enjoy watching TG too, it's not a motoring programme, just entertainment with a motoring flavour. And sometimes lessons can be learned. Like never hold on to a tow rope as it is being pulled tight. You might crack your head open! (glad to see Cap'n Slow was ok tho...)

Mechanical warranty/insurance

Had the Z3 6 months now - excellent car, runs fine. The garage I bought it from gave me 6 months warranty with Auto Protect. Renewal is £249.00 which I thought was reasonable but as I expect to be low mileage next year < 10,000 I think it may not be worthwhile. A search bought up some threads about ...

After Webber had to give up his new nose section to Vettel, and then went out and won the race anyway (Silverstone wasn't it?), I thought now, that's my kind of race car driver. Reminds me of the likes of Mansell and Jones. So I hope the Aussie comes through... But, I have to say, it's Alonso's to l...

I have a 523 (E39) on a T plate that has 218,000 miles on the clock and still sounds like it did when I bought it at 57,000 miles. Our Z3 has 78,000 so I reckon it has a fair way to go yet. Before the E39 I had a Vauxhall Cavalier that went to 275,000 before the mechanics fell apart. I always let a ...

Excellent stuff. Good pics too. Shame about the off on the last lap, but I bet you reckon it was worthwhile for the experience! I was there a few weeks back in our Z3. What a blast! Most drivers were fast but safe, except one crazy in a Citroen AX trying to stay with a 911 and nearly lost it right i...

No Brit Zeds but we caught site of four foreign reg Z3s, only one returned our wave. Miserable sods, not like Harley riders! Only four! They either keep them hidden or we have a pretty exclusive club. And you may like to know we thought the Z3 got more admiring glances than did our erstwhile Harley ...

Back from Euro Road Trip

What a great way to get to know our new acquisition, a 2.2i Z3 Sport. Two weeks, seven countries (Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France). 2,800 road miles, 14 race track miles - Nurburgring of course. During two weeks away I must say I'm quite pleased with it. It did the ...

Yes, there are loads of clips, search Top Gear Romania on youtube. I reckon we can cope with pot holes, carts and Bucharest traffic, it's the car crime against western open top sports cars and loonies on the wrong side of the road wiping us out that is making me think twice. Be a shame to miss out t...

Hi Mouldy,
Yep, that's the road I was intending. I believe it was featured in a Top Gear episode on the BBC recently.
Is it worth the hassle though?

It seems strange to me. I have done some research on East Europe countries. They have very tight regulation - 0% alcohol, headlights on day time, enforced speed limits and yet they have a per capita death rate 3-4 times higher than the UK. Maybe we are just better at keeping people alive after the a...

Road trip in Europe

Hello all, YAN (Yet Another Newbie) here. My wife has lusted after a Z3 for a while. So, sold the Harley and now have a Z3 2.2i. In September, as an inaugural trip, we are driving to Romania (Bucharest) and back via France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Slovakia. I guess the first four are ...
