Sounds like the symptoms of a failing camshaft position sensor (either inlet or exhaust). Have you had anyone hook the car up to a diagnostic machine yet? I did a cruise control on my S54 ///M (also fly by wire) quite easily using a kit form BMW that was actually meant for the 2.5i US version. If the pin goes up and down the actuator is OK - try gently pressing on the rear part of the door, then open it. The usual problem is that the catch pin on the door jamb switch needs lightly greasing. In some cases the lock claw is sticky - try pressing it closed while the door is open, and see if ...
