Re: How to remove your ABS module
I’m not completely convinced that’s the correct procedure. Unless somewhere an onboard backup is kept. It is - the coding for the ABS module is also stored in the DME. When I got my Z3 someone had obviously swapped out the ABS module and hadn't recoded it, so they just took the warning bulb out of ...

Re: Tyres!
I've been using Nexen tyres for some years now - not on the Zed, as it hasn't needed tyres yet, but I'd happily fit them. It's a very difficult question to give an firm answer to, but for road use on decent (not worn-out, 20-year-old) suspension, I can't imaging you'll notice any difference. I'd go ...

The condensation is almost certainly just a side effect of moisture in the boot. Have a good dig around under the carpet for water, particularly where there is a 'well' either side behind the wheelarch.

Re: strange problem this morning
I'd start by checking the connections to the battery. Don't be fooled by the central locking thing - that was just a coincidence. Could be that the closing of the door just jogged something back into contact, especially as the central locking doesn't work when you lose all power, and wouldn't have a...

Re: Exhaust Manifold Question (and a few others)
Just quickly, as it's not entirely clear elsewhere but is there any difference between the M54 2.5 and M54 3.0 manifold/DISA? Bimmerforums suggest that there's no difference. The easiest way to answer any compatibility questions is to make your way to Realoem.com and find the part - it will then te...

There's a European one, that is the nice-looking one, and the USA one that has a large metal bar in it for some safety reason. The USA ones then tend to sag because of the weight and the Americans are always looking for Euro ones because they hate theirs!

Would need to see the pinout, but I think it is a microswitch with a separate LED and possibly a common ground. If you are stuck to get an exact replacement, it should be possible to construct a replacement out of a separate LED and simple push button switch mounted into a switch blank. That's corr...

They're alarm sensors. I assume from what you say that you are locking and unlocking with the key in the door, rather than a remote. Where is the beeping coming from? Under the bonnet, or in the cabin?

Actually, all the connectors and pins are available from BMW - you just have to search out the part numbers on Realoem, in the 'Vehicle Electrical System' section, which can be 'challenging'!

Why not just code the second module to the car? It can be done diy using DIS - I know, because I've done it. I can't tell from your post whether you think the second module is faulty, but second-hand bits for these cars are everywhere.
If you've really given up I'll give you £100 for it.

The fact that you noticed no difference with the maf disconnected and got no warning light is the stand-out comment. It sounds as though the car runs ok when it's in open-loop, but not when it's in closed-loop. I assume your engine light comes on correctly when you first turn the ignition on? I thin...

MIne's fine. The Z doesn't have speed-sensitive power steering as far as I know, but then your SD1 wouldn't have been either, so it doesn't provide more assistance at low speeds. Is your complaint that it's too heavy? If so, the Z3 isn't over-assisted, which many cars are, because it is supposed to ...

Basically, 'check starter motor'. I had no idea (and am rather dubious) that DIS and INPA can give feedback on the starter motor on a basic car like the Z3. If you have a recurring cam sensor fault (I assume you cleared the code and it's come back) then change that.
