Re: Z3 overheating.
I am coming in on the thread late, my Z3 1.9 suffered overheating after a thermostat replacement. If I am teaching to suck eggs, please accept my apologies. Refilling the 1.9 M44 engine with coolant has to be carried strictly in accordance with the procedure detailed in the workshop manual and its a...

Re: Z3 1.9 Pre facelift M44 Engine. Lambada probe
An update! The car had previously been failing the MOT emissions test with high CO. My car was reading 0.5. Today my car was tested and the CO was 0.06, this is a massive improvement. The effort to get there was also massive and I guess if a garage had carried out the work the cost would have writte...

Re: BMW Z3 1.9 M44 - Induction System - Suction Pipe
Hi Mike, yes I did read your excellent article on the knowledge base. I am currently working a design to pick-up next to the RHS front fog lamp, or that area. At the moment the pipe is off and the car seems to running better. However that feeling can be almost phycosematic in nature. I will photogra...

Re: BMW Z3 1.9 M44 - Induction System - Suction Pipe
I am looking at ducting pipe and fabricating a replacement with vibration joints at either end. I think the insulation is for noise reduction, i would not have thought it was to help to keep the air cool. The intake is alongside the radiator and the pipe routes over the fan shroud, therefore it is u...

BMW Z3 1.9 M44 - Induction System - Suction Pipe
It’s me again, has anyone replaced the induction system suction pipe, Part No. 13711743351 with an alternative item. The pipe, which is a foam assembly runs from the left hand side cold air air take up and over the radiator viscous fan shroud and into the air-filter box. Mine has rotted away. Thanks...

It’s a bit of a pain, I use a wheel clamp, don’t bother locking it, the alarm doesn’t work.

Re: Z3 1.9 Pre facelift M44 Engine. Lambada probe
Hi, sorry for late reply, still in the Middle East fixing an aeroplane! Robert, your correct the car is not plated, and only CO, carbon monoxide is measured. Both fast idle and idle failed CO. HC was 103ppm and lambda was 1.015, so within the middle of the range. The car was warm as I had just repla...

Z3 1.9 Pre facelift M44 Engine. Lambada probe
I am away from home at the moment and reading up on the Catalytic Convertor / Lambada probe installation on my car. I have had the dreaded high Co2 MOT fail. Please could somone tell me how many lambada probes my car is supposed to have. I am sure the car has one pre cat probe, but when I look at Re...

Hi Brian Thanks for your advice - spot on. I don't know why, but every time I looked at Real OEM I could not find that particular slide. I have now listed all I need - good stuff. Off Topic warning, The Vulcan in the background, it it XM575 at East Midlands, if it is, I worked on that aircraft and m...

Re: Nearside and offside sills 2000 3.0 Z3
I agree, the structure underneath the cover sills is massive and zinc plated. I have just replaced the sills on my 1997 car and the rust underneath was surface and cosmetic. Please can I ask do have any pictures.

Re: Nearside and offside sills 2000 3.0 Z3
Hi - Just wanted to add, I purchased OEM LH and RH sills from Germany last week for £119.00 plus carriage, my old sills had damage to the front edges as expected. I have had them sprayed with stone chip guard and will also fit the modified Halfords mudflaps so that the front of the sill is protected...

Thank you for very useful reply. I took the center console out and your right it's PA100. I think some parts the installation are missing judging by the amount of taped together joints. I traced H&P on the web and have written then a screed plus photoes. I'll report back what I find out. Thank y...

Hamilton and Palmer Alarm System
Hi fellow owners, the Z has been brought out of its winter home. MOT and service carried out and a new front section cat installed. All is now well, however I am trying to understand the alarm system. The system is an aftermarket Hamilton and Palmer system, I believe these units were fitted on behal...

Hello from a new Z3 owner
Dear Forum members My first post to say hello to the forum, we finally purchased a Z3, a 1.9 1997 in dark blue and in superb condition. We searched for ages and finally found our car. It has covered 55000 miles, and in the last 4 years had only completed 500 miles. We decided on the 1.9 as insurance...
