I'll take a chance on that as long as its clean and tidy (and cheap enough!)

Re: Northern Spain in a Z3M
There are a couple of "Z" related things that I forgot to say in this write up. The first is the number of Z series cars seen whilst in Spain, and this amounted to 3: a red Z4 that I glimpsed on the move in San Sebastian at the beginning of the holiday and then two Z3s that were parked up ...

Northern Spain in a Z3M
So a bit of an explanation is called for before the pictures I think. Mrs Thesurveyor and myself have an empty nest; a situation that I know is not unfamiliar to a few of us on this forum. We also both work full time and so when it came to a holiday this year we basically had a wide choice available...

Re: Rear spring replacement
So, this is what my lovely (driven just 500 miles at this point) new spring looked like just before going off to Spain. Quite a marked difference to the KW picture posted earlier. No bump stop at the bottom and far less of the thread visible on the top adjuster. You would think that this would make ...

Re: Rear spring replacement
For the sake of completeness and to help others that might find this thread in the future, I have now completely cured the knock from that back end of the car. Re: Rear spring replacement
Thanks for the picture. It looks like yours has been lowered since there is more thread above the screw adjuster than I have. I don't know if it matters but the instructions that came with mine said to use the original bottom pad only. No bump stop apparently required. I'm just confused. Your coils ...

Rear spring replacement
I have had the KW replacement suspension fitted to the M, and while all seemed well at first the new rear set up is knocking and making a real racket. The garage that fitted them have been good but they put it down to a lack of a top spring pad in the suspension kit (purpose made for my car!). They ...

I have had a look and there are no part numbers visible on the rear springs. I had replacement Konis on the rear when I bought the car so no help there. The front struts are Sachs, part number 1-0211-37-634-A if that is of any help. They have the BMW roundel and the words MRoadster on them so I'm su...

I have just upgraded my Z to a custom KW suspension set up. Its only variant 1 so nothing too radical and the ride height is standard. I have kept the old front struts and the four springs. I agree with Lightning (well I would, my M has had ten owners). I did buy the top quality version, though without seeing the basic one it's difficult to make a sensible comparison.

Re: Iron filings on paintwork?
Apparently Fiat 500s suffered from a similar problem. My cousin was told that the cars were moved around from the factory on railway carriages and that the dust and rubbish from the train brakes got onto the paint and burnt tiny rusty holes just as described above. Lots of warranty claims allegedly.

I've also ticked off another job from my initial list recently (bought car in May 2014) and this was a curiously satisfying one. Mine is an estoril M Roadster but there is also a black 2.2 in my road that is not out and about much. I get the feeling that there are not that many Z3s
in everyday use now.
There have also not been any local cruises or meets for us in the south east this year.

Inspection 2 and an MOT.
Not cheap no but it sailed through MOT with no advisories and they did not uncover any nasties whilst changing all the fluids and adjusting the tappets etc so it could have been much worse.
Spark plugs are £15 each!
