Clock spring in E85
Good evening. During the reinstallation of my steering wheel, I accidentally unravelled the clock spring in my Z4 E85 today :o . I carefully wound it back up and diligently placed it back in it's casing, no wire was disconnected or damaged so I plan on reusing it. To get the clock spring in the corr...

Z4 Auto gear knob
Having a spot of difficulty removing the gear knob from my Z4 Automatic - I know I have to push the button in and yank upwards. I have removed the battery and seats as I am trying to get to the centre console and eventually replace that, but a bit stuck at the part where I have to remove the gear kn...

Advice on sprucing up Z4 interior?
The interior of my Z4 roadster is looking a little tired. The steering wheel looks 'well used' and the paint looks like it's peeling off. It looks similar to this http://www.autopten.com/carforum/images/2-worn-steering-wheel-hyundai-elantra-2013.jpg In addition the silver paintwork on the center con...

Re: Advice on Z4 purchase
Hi, just spoke to the dealer and he said the car was fixed for £1200 and has a receipt to prove it, he also says that the car was driven for 10000 miles since the repair. He says that the warranty he has would cover engine damage in the first 3 months. It looks positive. What do you all think?

Advice on Z4 purchase
Just seen a dirt cheap 2.5i Z4 automatic on AutoTrader. It is Cat D (which is why it is so cheap) and when I asked why, the dealership said it was 'water in the engine'. I am just wondering if I should stay clear and avoid like the plague or purchase it at such a low price and risk it. It is in othe...

Re: Z3 engine cutting out.
He tested the alternator and battery, said both were fine.
Funnily enough he said the same about the camshaft or crankshaft sensor. Hopefully it's that, as that sounds cheaper and simpler to fix.

Re: Z3 engine cutting out.
Yes, just broke down on the motorway as I came off the slip road. A man luckily drove past and offered to tow me home using a rope, I was so grateful. The engine just stalled as I came off the slip road and as I tried to start her again there was not a lot of power and it just stalled again. I will ...

Re: Z3 engine cutting out.
Hi, wasn't there a post recently about similar issues due to bad connections on the battery terminals? Certainly would be an easier (and cheaper) fix than changing the fuel pump. Fingers crossed, Boosh. I'll check them in the light of day tomorrow. I had disconnected the battery in order to take th...

Z3 engine cutting out.
Hi, I have an automatic 1997 1.9 Petrol Z3. 69k on the clock, last serviced at 53k. I was driving into town on Sunday and about 5 minutes into the journey (after filling the tank full) the engine just cut out, with the battery and oil lights illuminated on the dash. I started her right up again and ...

Re: Got my new second Z3 today
I pressed the grey button on the separate fob and it stopped. What's going on? Should I have disarmed it before unlocking the car? Short answer, Yes. The alarm is set/unset with the remote central locking. If you unlock with the key, the alarm will still be set. Conversely if you lock with the key ...

It has a current MOT, insured and taxed and off I go. I bought it qu...

So I need to take the #1 panel off right?

Re: Fog light switch playing up
You could pry out the switch but it may leave marks on the dash, If you drop the lower kick panel you can push it from behind. Apart from the rear cross member/diff hanger in/under the boot failing I cannot think of anything that is specific to the Z regarding the MOT, just the usual thing. How do ...

Fog light switch playing up
Just done a 75-point visual pre-MOT check prior to taking my baby for her test. Found just one thing that it will definitely fail on. Question about front bumper and MOT
I am about to take my cat C BMW Z3 in for an MOT. I am about to replace the cracked bumper with my new one but realised the new one is from a 2002 Z3 and has holes where the parking lights should be. My 1997 Z3 does not have parking lights and has no holes where they should be either. Will it fail i...

Re: Anyone know how to install a side window to a regulator?
You are right about having to slide them into the metal channels. It's a bit fiddly. Best route is to remove the 1/4 light window so you don't have that in the way. Then get one nylon piece into the channel, tilt the widow glass and you will just manage to get the other in. Then keep the whole thin...
