Re: Squeaking side window
Solved it, the problem, the squeaking, was coming from the window motor regulator. Replaced it last year, operates smoothly and quietly since.

Squeaking side window
On my 2006 E85 roadster the pax side window squeaks loudly on up and down movement, I assume it's the rubber guide seal that sits on the top for the door. I've tried silicone, other stuff including WD40, but no success. It did run quietly for a time a while back but don't know why. I assume that the...

Hood motor
I have just had the roof motor on my 2006 Z4M relocated in the boot, the original production line location puts the motor in an area prone to collect water, this can result in eventual failure of the motor. I did this as a preventive measure, the hood had been working fine but I didn't want it faili...

How many miles are spark plugs good for on a Z4M? Mine were last changed at 48k (insp 2), I'm now on 73k.

Re: Inspection 1
Been back to the dealer and had to almost insist that the Inspection 1 was more to it than an oil change, after some kerfuffle some bod came on the line and said that I was right, valve clearances would be checked and that would be £619 please sir! Knew I was wasting my time saying that the quote wa...

Inspection 1
My 2006 Z4MR is due an inspection1 (69k mls), the local BMW dealer has quoted £231, seems a bit cheap, too cheap! Although not as major as inspec 2, it's still a major service. Worried about getting a decent job done. I recently had the brakes discs/pads replaced so those are excluded.

Thinking of putting the Z4M away for the winter and buying an M3 coupe, around 2008/9. Anybody got any advice on what to look out for on M3's, mechanical wise?

Re: Z4M tyres
Hi Ross, I've got photos of it from around 1990, but if you've got some I'd like to see them. I was going down the M6 near Keele, 70ish when the engine went, timing chain snapped. This was probably around 1992. I had just had it in at Williams BMW for MOT, and they had phoned me to say that it wasn'...

Re: Z4M tyres
Does the tyre depot need special equipment so as to avoid the danger of damage to the alloy wheels or will any depot be okay so longer as they're careful?

Re: Z4M tyres
petecossie, just noticed that you had a M635, so did I, an '87 D plate Lachs Silver D474 XRA bought of Frank Sytner in Nottingham in 1988 on 11k miles, cost £32.5k. Ran it for about five years, clocked up £130k miles. Sadly the timing chain snapped on the M6 (motorway) not going fast, maybe 80. Stil...

Re: Z4M tyres
Yes I know that lower profiles make for harsher ride, but I thought that if the profiles dropped from 40 and 45 on 18" to 35 and 40 then the rim size would have to increase to 19".

My existing tyre sizes are F225/45ZR18, R255/40ZR18, but on tyre supplier websites when I enter my reg, sizes shown are F225/40R18W88 and R255/35R18W90. Anybody know why different profiles?

Re: S54 engine
siwilson, sorry for my ignorance, but what is the issue for not letting the engine idle for a long period? I have done (5-10mins) before driving off on a shortish journey during the winter months in the belief that it helps the engine reach it's operating temp sooner.

Remote locking problem
I have a 2006 Z4M roadster and the remote locking system is not working with either key, after visiting various garages/lock specialists, it seems as though the problem is with the receiver in the interior rear view mirror. I have a price of £460 from a BMW dealer for replacing the mirror. Does anyb...

I have a 2006 Z4M and neither of the keys will activate/de-activate the central locking. I have a 2006 Z4M roadster and neither of my key fobs will activate or deactivate the central locking/alarm.
