My guess is that there is a loose heat shield in the trasmission tunnel area, it may well sound as if it's from the gearbox area but it all travels down the tunnel to make it appear it's from where it's not, dealer will find it..

That looks very good mate - it looks like a professional job! Do you have teh machine to remove and fit tyres too then or do u get a local garage to do this for you - just thinking baout how practical it will be doing the other 4 wheels! This wheel that I have done is what I got with the car as a s...

Normal stripper yes, 'Nitromors' I used, there are a few pics of the wheel I've done below, still needs a little finishing off but you can see the result is pretty good, also below is a pic of the ALU polish I used.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/plowy/sdff.jpg http://img.photobuck...

just to add to that, your question about re-lquering the rim, well no, I would not do it because this is the major cause of problems on a split rim apart from kerbing as the weather gets behind it and corodes the alloy, better off it being naked and keep it polished........

so how did you strip the paint off as professional refurb people blast the paint off. Also when u say there is no protection, do u mean no lacquer? Couldn't u get a spray can of lacquer from a bodyshop or Halfords and spray laqcuer over it? OK, once I had filed and wet n dryed out the kerbing this ...

I'm in the (slow) process of partially refurbing / polishing some BBS split rims - luckily no curb marks on them. But the lacquer is starting to chip on the polished rims which looks a bit unsightly. I think polished rims are best left unlacquered as chipping is inevitable. I have bought some Prote...

Composite 108's DIY refurb...

My car has the Composite BBS split rim 18" alloys which were the only choice for me on this car but unfortunatly the previous owner was not too good at judging kerbs hence every wheel is badly kerbed . I set about finding someone to refurb them but this is proving to be a bit of a job, problem ...

Welcome - I've a black ( best colour ) 3 litre Z3. Is yours the same engine as mine ( 231bhp ) or the later uprated engine, 265 bhp I think. Black's a pig to keep clean but worth the effort.
