I've not heard the lifting eye called flimsy before! As long as you're sure what your looking at is the lifting eye then that's what it's there for and I've never heard anyone have issues with it.

The 3.0 came with an LSD as standard (unlike other engine sizes at that time). BMW VIN also shows it as having Style 64 wheels originally which are non-Sport. What station do you listen to? I've had a lot of problems with Radio 2 (what else is a Z3 owner going to listen to really) this week and thought it might be their transmitters.

I had to swap mine recently for the same reason. It's quite a hard part to find, I've never seen any for sale on eBay. Though of course you will probably now get loads of offers... I think because it's 'German engineering' we have a tendency to think everything should be perfect. But BMW make plenty of howlers. I'd probably just get it from a BMW dealer. If it's the caliper to carrier bolt it should be 2 or 3 quid although I think someone on here recently got quoted £6 from his local dealer. If it's the slider bolt with the hex head more like £15-£20.

I'm not familiar with the component but it might be there to stop vibration.

I have a 3 year old Alhambra. Problems with air box vibrations are a know fault and are very annoying. The official Seat fix is to pack them with foam insulating tape to stop the vibration.

I know it's a noddy question but I'm jiggered if I can find the answer.

Where's the best place to disconnect the fuel line for M54 (2.2) engine removal? Could anyone link to a photo showing the point?

Everything else already disconnected and just needed un-mounting of gearbox and exhaust.

The butyl tape was a little solid for my liking. More plasticine consistency than gungy. So I thought as I put it in it may be too dry to stick the vapour barrier properly. Still struggling with this. I felt the leakiest place and the one place I could do something about was round the quarter light. So I stopped it up discretely with Sugru, figured that would get rid of most of the ingress and then at least stop the remaining from entering the cabin by sealing the foam...
