Just checked the receipt. £9.22 for 4 from BMW so £2.30 each. Byronix (to date quality) copy part supplier on ebay £3.25!!

The copy parts on Ebay are materially no cheaper than from BMW. I bought a couple from Trainers in Swansea a couple of weeks ago and they were either £3.50 each or even £3.50 a pair - can't remember. My track car leaked a bit on the upper corners of the rubber at the top of the windscreen, by the quarter glass, a couple of bike puncture repair patches and it's water tight now, even in the really heavy rain recently It's not that bit on mine though. I have 2 Feb 2001 2.2s, manufactured within 3 days of each other. One has the braided hose and the other doesn't. I would tend to agree the braided hose is unlikely to be original.

It just pulls off. I've only removed them when I've already had the door card off but I don't think that's necessary. They wrap round at either end. I unhook from the front and then just pull gently up.

A secondhand one will be £20-£25. You can get a recon for £45-£50 including at Eurocarparts (Ebay or with 30% discount).

And the recommendation is to ensure the vapour barrier is properly sealed and the drain holes in the bottom of the door are cleared. Sounds a good option. What a mickey take on the fitting though. Probably one of the simplest jobs you can do. BMW VIN shows the OBC but you are correct, no air con.

Probably a genuine error but as you say no good if that's one of the main motivations to change the car.

When I was dealing in Scalextric cars I used to send the occasional parcel to South Africa. I did always dread doing it as insurance wasn't viable due to cost and I knew there was a high chance of it going missing. That said France was not much better.

The BMW extendable warranty is excellent. My brother has one on his 1 Series. It costs him £600 per year and covers everything apart from service items, even wear and tear. It covers any age car and keeps going until 120,000 miles I think it is. Haven't ever seen a comparable warranty with any other...

If you can do a ball joint then changing an engine is just a series of jobs of a similar order of complexity :)

But it will be a fairly long one if you've never done it before (you and me both, I'm about to do a 2.2).
