Personally, I'd rather have a car that had done 6,000 miles per year from new than a 16 year old car that had only done 9,000 miles.

It would be different if I had a heated showroom where I could add it to my collection :).

As long as the car is used it will be ok. I have an E46 auto that is rarely used and it's auto-box has problems until it has been used for a day or two.

Are you planning to swap from a donor car, or to get the parts individually. I ask this because with the donor car option, it is probably easier to swap everything, whether it's different or not. Sorry for the slightly terse reply earlier - quoting is a bit fiddly on Tapatalk. To my knowledge, there is not and never has been anything to disable on a Z3 before fitting the hardtop. That sounds like it relates to cars with pop up rollover protection, which I think was only ever fitted to 4 sea...

after 5 months hiding in its cover hard top on all ready for winter , only trouble I loosened the 3 screws on the front latches to line it up guess what lost the t25 key that does them up got another some where too dark now peter2b If you've lost it, buy a full set from Halfords for about £10-£15. ...

Airflow is good for airing the car, but bad when the wind gets up - as I found out a couple of winters ago :shock: .

Best might be to have air gaps, but to loop straps over the structure and bolt them to the floor.

Some "rituals" do more harm than good. I don't think yours will do any harm. I always warm the engine up slowly before giving it the beans. That's why I don't do the "dawn runs" and I like being at the back on cruises :wink: . I don't see the point of engaging ALL the gears, but I always "squeeze" 2...

I'd be very surprised if the driveshafts would be too weak to handle the torque. If you use a 1.9 diff, that could be too weak, but finding out is part of the fun :D . These torques are engine torques, you will have to calculate worst case scenarios using g/box and diff ratios... 1.9 torque = 180Nm ...

The cure for that is to use the car. Driving it on a regular basis will also prevent possible brake caliper seizure, parking brake seizure and keep the battery charged. The problem that I mainly encounter is brake discs. I keep mine outside, so have weather problems, which you won't have. They corrode and squeal when I'm getting the car ready for MOT. I solve it by removing the discs and cleaning them on a lathe, but prevention would be better than cure. Another co...
