Re: M Tec 2 steering wheel
The M Tech II wheel has no airbag, so you'll need to sort that out within the car's systems to avoid issues. Also, these wheels were fitted to the E30's and subsequent models including 5 series cars. Your existing slip ring may or may not fit to the wheel, or the slip ring which perhaps comes with t...

That's exactly what was happening inside my tank - the arm was catching. However, I doubt the tank has deformed, although I admit it may be possible in a very hot climate. On the pump / sender unit you will see that the float arm pivot shaft fits into a plastic tube housing. These 2 parts actually w...

I've been looking at waxes, their benefits and comparisons to polishes. So first thing I discovered in the reading is that a polish is an abrasive. Having fitted a new soft top, I would like to know if anyone has considered which reservoir washer fluid to use. I'm certain some fluids could leave marks of residue in the fabric and others may just be plain harmful. Anyone ever found an effective cleaning fluid which they would recommend?

I collected a "broken" old style switch last night and discovered that other than the power supply connection connector, the other 2 connectors were identical. So an easy swap of the old type connector to the new style switch and loom.

Make sure you have the heater switch on the console turned to "HOT" when you bleed, so that the valve to the heater matrix is in the open position to allow the heated water to pass through the system fully.

Re: M54 Oil Consumption - two possible fixes, which is better?
Considering the consumption on an M52 / TU motor is zero, that's a lot of oil being burnt in the combustion process. That means that after 37,000 miles, you have used an entire oil change in volume. As time passes this will increase as the oil rings wear. If you're burning that amount of oil, consid...

Pull the CCV hose off, undo the M13 bolt holding the bracket to the engine block near the bottom, remove the M10 bolt at the top end and unclip the cable / hose whatever off the dipstick body about 1/2 way down. Re: M54 Oil Consumption - two possible fixes, which is better?
I'm afraid so. The dipstick tube which you shove the dipstick down is an "inner" tube. At the bottom where the CCV rubber drain tube connects to the dipstick, the dipstick tube has a "second skin" around the long "inner tube" but only for the section from that CCV "...

May I ask if you pulled the dipstick out when you did the CCV replacement?
The fact that the CCV has a separate drain channel on the dipstick tube isn't common knowledge, and I would imagine it is not a check item when doing the CCV replacement.

Re: M54 Oil Consumption - two possible fixes, which is better?
All M54 engines have the same oil consumption issues. The CCV isn't particularly a weak link, but has to cope with the volumes of oil due to the oil ring problem of those engines. If you look at how the CCV works, the fitting of a catch can does not mean you have to replace the CCV. A catch can has ...

The options are change the oil rings on the pistons and fit the rings from the M52's. They are a better design. Or... delete the CCV completely and fit a decent oil catch can like Mishimoto.
