Re: Z3 - alarmed whilst the hood is down !!!!!!!
On my car there are two sencers one at the top left and top right of the windscreen, so the alarm covers the cab area. The little Red led on your dash is a switch if you push it in it turns them off, and if the switch is in the out position they are active with the alarm.

I Bought one of the bean bag things to keep the Tom Tom on the dash so it does not mark the window, so no one knows that you have used a TomTom as there is no mark. Hopefully giving someone one less reason to break into my car! http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/drive/accessories/ Looks a good idea though

I agree some small parts can be cheaper off the dealer than ebay.
I bought a new drain plug for my radiator off the dealer and it was only about 5 or 6 pounds.

Re: My seat moves under acceleration and breaking - new wash
Nice and simple fix - 30-40 mins tops I'm impressed, but ... 10 minutes to get everything ready. 5-10 to get the seat out of the car and on the bench. Another 5-10 minutes to strip the seat. 10-15 to accurately sand down the spacers. 5-10 to re-assemble the seat. 5-10 to refit the seat. 10 minutes ...

Search YouTube for bmw z3 seat bushes and there is a guy showing you how to do it.
While you have the seat out of the car don't turn the ignition on other wise you will have to have the light reset on the dash.

Pretty certain they had it on the 3 series coupes/cabrios with frameless windows. Maybe the engineered it out of the Z to add the classic feel! There is a big plastic plug that needs removing then it is just a case of pulling the plastic sill off the car. You will probably damage some of the plastic clips on removal so handy to have some replacements when you put it all back together.
