The reason brake fluid is changed periodically is because it is hydroscopic (absorbs water). As the water content increases the boiling point of the fluid reduces. There would come a point if not changed where the fluid in the caliper could boil under heavy braking and you would get a soft pedal. Th...

Hi Clive. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the choice of motor :thumb: I have not heard of anyone on here changing their own Vanos. I have read up on it and it doesnt seem impossible and would consider it myself if/when the time comes. What symptoms are you getting? There seems to be two failure...

I used to have a mini with a metro engine in it. I could change the head gasket in 90 mins! Did my sons Saxo head gasket a few weeks ago. 6 hours work and £40 for the gasket. These days people seem very reluctant to have a go diy. I always encourage it. My son is learning from example I hope. Jobs a...

There must be a case now for upping the national limit on duals and motorways to 80mph. I find that driving at 70mph on motorways more hazardous than going at 80 to 90. On the speed limit one is constantly overtaken and has to be on guard. At 80 going with the flow of traffic life is less stressful....

Thats very useful Guy, thanks. I agree that 0W and 5W oils are not too thin. Anyone that thinks that is missing the point of the SAE classification system. The first part of the number is all about cold temperature performance and it a fact that ALL oils are much more viscous than an engine needs wh...

I think the pressure going into the Vanos is controlled via a 0.5 bar PRV so the pressure will be the same irrespective of oil temperature.
