No light on dash, apart for high beam? How odd. All my previous cars had one, so I assume it had blown. That saves me having to investigate, then. Thanks for you help,
Boosh.

instrument cluster removal
Hi all, I think the bulb indicating that the lights are on is bust, as I've never seen it on... Could anybody please confirm (or refute) that the instrument cluster can be removed with the steering wheel still in situ? Also, where about is the bulb? (I don't fancy having to check them all one by one...

Re: Airbag light... wit a twist!
Well, it took me a little while, but I got myself a B800 SRS reader, as recommended.£15 posted. What convinced me to give a try was the £450 (!) quoted by an 'independent BMW' garage, to take the seat out and replace the airbag module. Using the code reader was very easy, once I realised that the fa...

Thanks for the info, siwilson. So I either need an adaptor, or another changer. More internet searching ensues...

Head unit - CD changer compatibility
Hi all, After 6 weeks of ownership, I finally managed to get the code for my Blaupunkt Head Unit. It is a BMW Business, that I thought factory-fitted. As the code I obtained from BMW would not work, I can only assume that my HU was not born in my '02 1.9 Z3. Anyway, after a lot of trolling the net, ...

Airbag light... wit a twist!
Hi all, I've had a 2002 1.9 Zed for about 6 weeks, and a couple of weeks ago, the dreaded airbag light came on. Car was in the garage today to get some new suspension arms, and I asked the mechanic if he could clear the fault. He had a go, and told me his reader could not connect to anything airbag ...

Re: 'quirky' rear fog lights.
Well, it seems you both are right. Had another check, and everything works fine indeed, so long as the ignition is only on position I. When in position II (whether engine running or not), problem reappears just as described in original post. I also noticed that I don't seem to have a light on dash t...

Re: Roof switch move
Hi all, I intend to do this on my Zed. However, since I (sadly) don't have heated seats, I thought I could just disconnect the hood switch, re-route the wires from the gear lever to dash blank, and re-connect the switch. But the wires seem to be taped up with other parts of the loom (electric window...

Re: 'quirky' rear fog lights.
Mystery solved!! Having two tyres fitted today, I noticed that my left brake light was out. I replaced it once I got home, and realised that the right side light was also out. Suspecting something dodgy, I swapped side light bulbs over, and as expected, the working light changed side. I replaced the...

Re: 'quirky' rear fog lights.
Thanks, guys, that's what I thought... I'm not great with electrics, so short of being told/shown what to do, I might play it safe and have the Zed looked at.
Thanks for you help,

Re: 'quirky' rear fog lights.
Well, after talking to various people, it seems it might also be a faulty relay. Could any of you at least confirm or deny that rear fog lights can be activated without any other light on? In order to check the relay, is there a similar one I can swap with?
Thanks,
Boosh

'quirky' rear fog lights.
Hi all, I'm sure you'll tell me if I'm mistaken, but I think there's something not quite right with my rear fog lights: I can switch them on when no other light is on, or when side lights are on, but not when road lights are on! Being French, you'd think I wouldn't hesitate about bodging up the elec...

Am also with the AA, with additional parts and labour deal: any repair needed after roadside rescue is paid for, up to £500, up to five times a year, with £35 excess each time. Repairs done in garage of your choice. There is some reasonable 'Ts and Cs', but cost of cover does not depend on the model...

airbag light reset needed.
Hi all, I suppose it it seasonal for the dash to light up like a Christmas tree... My airbag light came on yesterday, low intensity at first, then full on. Typically, I think it might have something to do with water ingress (sorted out yesterday) from top of passenger-side door. I understand that ev...

Re: Yet another water ingress thread...
Well, fastest and easiest fixes ever: window guides tightened up in 5mn (including getting spanner out and away), rubber bungs removed, siliconed up and put back in, with hood ajar while drying. After yet another bout of pain, the interior was as dry as Ghandi's flip flop! Happy days, thanks for the...

Yet another water ingress thread...
Hi all, After a good search around, I can't seem to find any info on how to stop water getting in from top of the windows. Based on the splatter size on the seats, my passenger side seems to be more affected. It seems to be coming from the rubber seam between the foremost rubber 'tube' and the one n...

Re: Gearbox oil: have I got the right one?
Smoother gear change is the aim. So, the guy was right. It's just that I expected something thicker, closer to engine oil... Well, now I need to suss out a way to pour it in, as there's not enough space to tilt the bottle to pour directly. Handpump and rubber tubing, methinks. Thanks for the advice,...

Gearbox oil: have I got the right one?
Hi all, and thanks for the advice so far. I've decided to change the gearbox oil in my manual 2002 1.9i z3. G went to the motor parts shop (an independent), he got his bible out, checked out make, model and year, and sold me 3 litre bottles of stuff. At home I realised he sold me some ATF-Q, which I...

newbie with a couple of issues
Hi all, This is my first post, my recently-acquired red 2002 1.9i z3 is my first BMW, and my first convertible, so please take it easy on me!! I've had the car just over a week, now. It's quite different from the motorhome (Mondeo estate) i got rid of! Being picky, but with basic+ mechanical knowled...
