Re: Emissions? bent pipe failure

My understanding is that the secondary air pump dilutes the exhaust gases with fresh air when the engine is cold, thus reducing the percentage of harmful emissions (not the quantity). The most common mode of failure seems to be that the valve fails and allows hot exhaust gases back up to the pump wh...

You could do with getting the car plugged into INPA. This will tell you what the key is actually doing, including showing you the code that the car has read. As I understand it, the code is cyclic, so I am wondering if it has just got out of sync and will come back round into sync eventually. This h...

The most common failure points are the roof microswitch, the wiring leading to the roof microswitch, the roof up/down switch on the dash and the brake pedal switch. Whilst it is feasible that other parts of the system can fail, the relays in the boot and the pump itself are not normally an issue. Th...

There looks to be a small gap in the insulation, but if not, a tiny cut would expose the copper core to short the wires at the microswitch. See photos here: viewtopic.php?t=34454

It should just be a snug fit, but I destroyed the one on whiteminks' car trying to get it out. It completely fills the void at the side of the trim and will need to compressed a bit to get it out. AFAIAA there are only two memories. One in the cluster and one in the ECU.

EEP is short for EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) and I am beginning to suspect that this resides in the coding plug.
