I had similar symptoms and the problem was knackered wishbone bushes. Complete cure with a new set of bushes.

Thanks Barry. Seems straight forward ish! A good manifold with a decent DISA valve seems to be the key component here. I`ll see what`s on the bay.

Has anyone actually done the manifold swap on a M52TU engine
Hi, I`ve a 99 2.8 with the M52TU engine. I`m looking at 3.0 cars but also thinking of just getting the extra horses by doing the conversion on mine. I`ve read loads but it all gets rather vague when you try and get specifics on the TU engine. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Interesting write up Mike. Think I`ll oil the pump first before I do anything. Might quieten it but I suspect the damage has been done.

Thanks colb.Interesting read, seems like I can disconnect the power with no ill effects. I did read somewhere else you can remove the whole lot but you need to fit a blanking plate where it fits into the exhaust manifold but I no longer have the facilities for making things.

I`ve recently had a high pitched whine, sounds like a dry bearing, on start up which lasts for about a minute or so. I`ve decided it`s the secondary air pump after a bit of research. When I put my hand on it it`s vibrating and after a minute or so the sound stops as do the vibrations. My question is...

Supermarket has changed hands a couple of times since then. It`s now Waitrose. It's a lovely place especially now we have Weatherspoons, Subway and the 99p shop! They all caused stress to the old locals when they moved in. The quay is a nice place to sit and watch in summer.

This request comes up quite regularly including from me. They rarely seem to be available second hand. When I needed one a few months ago I was directed to a main dealer, available there for £25ish. A few on ebay at the time were £30ish. Good luck.

Hi beerbelly, I would normally have gone for Pagid but I`m a sucker for a bargain and a pair of discs for £33 is a serious saving but if they are crap it`s not.

Have a look at this post. Some good pics on how to do it. I would imagine there`s quite a few hours work so probably quite an expensive job. There are quite a few vids on youtube if you do a search there too.

Happened a couple of times with me, like Robert T mine came back to life but was about 4 hours before this happened. I think Barry (Southernboy) had this happen and posted an explanation of what was wrong with his. I`ll see if I can find his post. Good luck

If you have an unmade road nearby you could test to see if it`s working by giving it some beans in first gear with the switch in one position then the other. You will then know if your ASC is working, it will be obvious. If it is then all you have is a duff bulb and a few chips on your paintwork.

I believe the problems people have with vanos units are age related and are mainly due to the various piston seals hardening with age and not sealing properly. Most firms that sell replacement O rings say they use a different material than OEM and that gives a great improvement in longevity. A video...

I`ve looked at a few videos on youtube about repairing noisy vanos units and they all focus on just replacing the seals, none mentioned replacing the thrust bearing. New seals seemed to cure the noise. Maybe you have a slightly worn water pump bearing, my water pump was noisy but quiet once warm but...

Hi Steve, You have a decent budget and as the warm weather fades away there are usually a few more for sale. I bought a 2.8 and wish I`d held out for a 3.0.
