New Year Drive
Thought I would start the new year off with some zedding. 8am this morning off to Filey. Roads very quiet and no plod so got there rather quickly. :) Gave me chance to try the new Cosmo strut out properly for the first time. The car feels solid and I am now much happier with the turn in which I thou...

Does anyone know why the section on past events on the home page shows over 20 events from 2005 and just 2 from 2006?

Official story from Tim is greasy road but my daughters (who got a lift this morning) tell me he hasnt learnt to slow down for corners yet! Pride is damaged severely. As is the bonnet, radiator, grille, bumber, front cross member nearside headlight. Wings intact. He also managed to dent the tailgate...

Not happy. I think there is a reason car insurance is expensive for new drivers.... Eventually got him a Saxo 1.1 S reg. Car £800. Insurance £1430 TPFT. Got it last Thursday. Just took a call from his mum - he has just crashed it! :head: Lost it round a corner. Frontal into a post. Wing, radiator, b...

Diy oil change - bargain!
Though MR needed some new oil, 4000 miles since last service and Vanos getting a bit noisier at idle. Threads here on oil make me think 10W-60 may make it last a bit longer. Anyway off to car spares shop... Found some lovely Castrol 10w-60 at the 4th shop visited. £33 for 4 litres. Off back ...

I think everyone seems to hate fog lights switched on unecessarily. It makes you wonder why its not self regulating. I think a sensor would be quite difficult to configure. Perhaps a timer on the switch so people dont drive with fog lights on forever coupled with brigt warning light to warn the driv...

I would be interested to know whether there is an easy way to reset the light. Mine is on at the moment after I messed about with some fuses. The reset tool is about £80 and I may buy one but it wouldnt surprise me if its just a case of shorting 2 pins on the connector.
Any clever people out there??

Car insurance for my lad
My boy passed his test recently on the second attempt and its time for his first car. Can anyone recommend a source of cheap insurance? Cheapest I have seen on tinternet is about £1400 TFFT for a 1.0 Corsa.
I looked at adding him onto the insurance for the MR (for a laugh) and they want £4k

Door dent - not happy
I got home in the car the other day and noticed a small dent in the drivers door. Someone has obviously opened their door onto mine, probably minutes earlier when I was parked at local shops. Its really annoying, I am always very careful not to do this to others. Anyway its quite small and the paint...

I get 180 to 210 before the light comes on. Thats doing 10 - 20 mile journeys on open roads and motorways, driving enthusiastically, as they say. I had an RX8 last year and once got 120 miles from a tank thrashing it down country lanes! Beemer is more fun to drive although the rex did sound g...

I went out for a spin today and did as you suggested Mike - used them a lot harder. The discs look better and the brakes certainly feel a lot sharper. Thanks for the advice guys. I can get the discs skimmed at work for free so may try that as first option. I cant see a problem, there is plenty of meat on the discs and there is no judder so they must be true. They just need a lick on a grinder, maybe 0.2mm off. If they dont come up right I can buy ...

Apologies for my naivety on my MR but I need a bit of advice. I am fancying a brake overhaul since my discs look a bit rusty and Im not getting a full contact between pad and disc. Its sounds like we are agreed then the Vanos is similar  . The whining noise that I get only happens when the oil gets hot and I hear it when I am motoring, particularly mid range. It seems to me that the oil may not be viscous enough to lubricate when its hot. This would cause wear and progre...

Ive had my S50 for 3 months and the only problem (more of a concern) with it is noise from the front of the engine when the oil gets near 100degrees. The noise is a whine (quite loud esp with hood down) which must be the Vanos. I had wondered whether the Vanos was on its way out but I dont get the c...

I Think a faulty diagnosis has EVERYTHING to do with the MOT, After all , If I make a wrong diagnosis it costs me ! If the tester said " you car's failed the emissions " , It COULD be the cat " , That's different , But If they say it IS the cat , then why should the owner pay up ? It...
