Why dont you take off the cylinder head cover and have a look. You may see something obvious. Checking the valve clearances is also worth a try diy. Its easy to check them, a bit harder to adjust them, but at least you could easily see if thats the prob. Are you getting overrun rattle from the the V...

Checking and adjusting S50 valve clearances
My Z3M S50 (54k miles) was noisy on start up - rattle from top end typical of valves out of adjustment. I did the job diy and here is the guide. Getting to check the clearances requires removal of the ignition coil cover, 6x coils and spark plugs, and the cylinder head cover. These all come of easil...

Our friend Gordon is proposing to up tax on 'Sports Cars' and 4x4s to over £400. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/19032007/344/green-measures-expected-budget.html Only seems to affect new cars. Its been a great day today, thanks to Stewart for arranging it. We met up at Betws at 9.30 - 4 cars - Stewart, Paul, Kevin and me. I had a nice drive before that from Abergele. I had the same problem and ended up having to change the lock actuator. It may be that giving it all a good lube will save you that problem. You need to remove the door trim panel and give everything that moves a spray with grease. I used a dry film lubricant on mine. For the window you should make ...

There are two Vanos issues. The original cover bolts were too short . The other Vanos issue is the gear splines wearing causing the growl. I suspect higher viscosity oil may help reduce the wear rate on the splines. If its just these two problems Robin why do Vanos units get changed so often? You d...

The trick with rust is to remove all traces of it before repainting. Strip off the paint and remove the rust. Angle grinder (or drill) with a wire cup brush works well, or a dremel etc. If you cannot get all traces of it removed treat with a rust killer; numerous types are available. If the rust has...
