Is it just me or have people completely distorted this tax issue out of all proportion when it comes to second hand values? I mean on a £15K car is £200 a year really that big a deal. As sellers, why don't people say - OK, I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll knock £600 off the asking price and that wil...

Price doesn't seem that far out to me if it's mint and considering it's a dealer. Maybe £500 off would be the thing to play for. Lift the carpet in the boot and check the floor for cracks. Again some cars seem to suffer more than others. Loads of posts on VANOS on here. Basically get someone to rev ...

Does sound more and more like a fueling problem doesn't it, although when cold you need an even richer mixture then normal so if it's OK then.. well... that is a little confusing, as is reving from idle which requires very little fuel. So I'm assuming the MAF clean made no difference ultimately? I'd...

You'll know if you have an engine miss as it will sound awful and be quite lumpy at idle etc. This will feel completely different to what a blocked cat would so i doubt it is that. First things first: Take the spark plugs out and check each for colour and gap etc. If you do this after running it for...

I almost did it the other way around. I'd always fancied a Tuscan since I was in my early 20's and with the price drop of late I went to Harrogate Horseless Carriages (now Drivestyle convertibles) and went to look at a couple with a view to part ex'ing the M. I knew to stay away from pre 2002 models...

Every time. Has to be on full throttle. ..then I doubt it is an air leak - or it would have to be a very big one and that would upset the idle etc. MAF or fuel supply problem rise to top of list. There is a schrader valve (just like you see on tyres) on the fuel line just down by the filter (under ...

Gary, how repeatable is this? Every time you drive or more random. Any situation set it off like prolonged full throttle at high revs? I think the lambda sensors would be the last thing I would be changing. I really can't see it being that at all. The signal from them isn't even used on full throttl...

..there are some rubber bushes at the top of the pedal pivot of course - usually creak when these go dry. Good spray of silicon grease on there helps. There's also a plunger switch as well but I would be surprised if that went stiff. If you take the lower piece of trim of to expose the clutch pedal ...

That is some good power there. What I just don't believe with these plots is 150bhp loss in the transmission at high rpm. I mean that's about 93kW of power - the entire thing would be glowing white hot if it was dissipating that in heat! Don't get me wrong - all the dynos seem to extrapolate flywhee...

I think you are being a little over fussy to be honest. The 55amp and 70amp that you talk about is the capacity of the battery in amp hours. This has little to do with the amount of electrics you can drive like the roof - it is more to do with the amount of 'standy time' you get when the engine is o...

right, fault codes have been read the MAF is duff! and the throttle potentiometer, and potentiometer signal sender. I wonder if just one of those is duff and it's confusing the ECU into thinking the others are as well. I would replace one at a time if I were you (starting with the cheapest), reset ...

Hi Ben, I'm pretty sure that the idling problems on my car were due to the build up of sooty deposits on the lambda sensors from lots of short trips which doesn't allow the engine to get up to temperature fully. The cold start fuel mapping on the M is particularly rich and since I only live about 2 ...

I would suspect a slack or aged alternator belt first over the water pump. The alternator is significantly harder to turn when started from cold as it has to dump lots of energy back into the battery - hence belt slip and squeel. After about 10 secs or so, the load is eased and the belt stops slippi...

one piece chrome roll hoops were purely cosmetic ...there were of course the OEM one piece chrome roll hopes which were a factory option. These were also structural and provided rollover protection. It's the cheapo Ebay ones which don't have the accreditation - whether mounted on the reinforced pil...
