philstone Windscreen
Hi although I have never replaced the windscreen on a Z1, I have taken off the painted left and right wind screen surrounds (and door mirrors). I think you should do this as it will make the screen easier to remove. The main garages often use autoglass etc etc to come and change their screens as it ...

Don't suppose you'd let me test drive it, would ya ? Might get the conversion myself considering the ribbing my boss gives me about the Zed being incapable of pulling the skin off a rice pudding at full bore acceleration. Let me sort the handling out first, no problem after that  I...

So Senna, how much did this conversion cost you all in ? It sounds like a very exciting prospect. I don't think it'd be hard to find a donor M3 engine but I suppose the labour charges would be quite high. I did all the work my self. The donor car was not expensive after I sold all the bits. Put it ...

V8 into a Z1
Wonder if the v8 out of a z8 would fit in a z1.................... It was hard enough getting the straight 6 M3 engine in as the engine bay is quite narrow. Servo is in a stupid position, as is the ECU box on the Z1. Good luck if to the brave person that manages a V8 Z1, my hair went white with thi...

Hi Lee, I don't think I could beat that beautiful monster :D The Z3M should be easy though....a certainty, unless the wind resistance is so low owing to the autoglym used. One of the speed cameras has been removed from the A217, as it met its demise to the exothermic reaction of Octane. There were r...

Z3M vs 360 spider RACES!!
Hi Oracle, if wou want a standing start against a 360 spider. then let me know, and any body else that wants a race on the A217 'Mad Mile' Banstead. Junction 8 off the M25. All of course below the national speed limit. We could have a Z meeting there, and see just how fast everybody's cars are. I wo...

Bumper Grills
The two center kidney gills are held in with glue/mastic, and if you push the grill at the bottom it will push back and come off. The two lateral grills are held in with clips. They come off if you remove the undertray so that you can get to them from behind.

Take off the gaitor, take out the ash trays, under them are screws. The hand brake is held on by the two cables, with lock nuts.
Undo these and the handle should be free. Dont forget to release the hand brake light wire.
I just took a wooden one off my M3. and sold it yesterady on ebay.

I would like to post my photos of the engines coming out and the S50 lump going into the Z1, but the web site will not allow me to saying that they are too big, so I gave up .
I took them using my Nokia.

M3 engine in Z1
Just started the M3 conversion for the Z1, using a 3.0l lump from a complete car. Photos will be posted (not the first thing on my mind). Does any body have a wiring diagram for the Z1 and the E36 M3.
Cheers.
please e-mail me with the answers I am confused

3 Z1's on E-bay
There are now Three on E-bay, from £12000 to 18000. Each car should be valued on its own merit, and how fast the owner wants to sell it. If the Green one fetched £19000, and there are only about 200 blue Z1's and the car has full service history, is well looked after and the interior is good. then m...

Start Button
Can I ask..... if the key is in, and the start button is piggy backed onto the barrel, does that mean that with the engine running, if I accedently touched the button the starter would engage onto a turning ring gear?
As I would love to do this but I am scared if a child (adult) touched the button.

We are trying to get them to produce clear (orange) lenses not LEDs. I know the Z1 scene here is a bit backwards. Mine is lowered and looking for a good M50 2.8 Lump to transplant into it. In Germany the norm is to have a strut brace, lowered on Konis, twin rear box, E30 M3 bushes and LSD (+/- a 2.7...

Hi I wanted to talk about the rear lights on the Z1. Would any body be interested in lights that were red but had clear indicators and reverse lights. Rather like the E36 M3. The Gearbox is different because it has a Torque Tube running off it and not a Prop (unlike E30's) The Diff IS the Same as an E30, and hence it can be replaced for an M-Tec LSD. I have removed the Torque tube before, and it is not easy, it is also not in production. The Gear box made by Getrang is a...

Z1 as daily driver
The gear box and transaxle are SPECIFIC to the Z1, and the transaxle can not be bought any more. The engine is not the usual M20 lump, but from a 325 ix (check the dip stick position). Otherwise the decision is yours to drive the car every day. Just be aware that not all the parts are available any ...

Hi This is really easy to fix. At the base of the plastic back are two mounting nuts (10 mm i think) These are broken on yours. If you drill a small 5 mm hole about one inch from the bottom of the plastic back and pass a tie strap through it around the metal bar you can tie the back tightly on the b...
