Re: Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Never did update this with the resolution, so for anyone with a similar (albeit a very rare) problem, this is what had happened; The positive battery on my terminal was not secure enough, allowing the car to think the battery had been momentarily disconnected whilst the car was locked. I noticed thi...

Re: LED replacement indicators

Thanks for the replies chaps :-) indicator LED's are the same..they really "flash" without the lagged glow of the incandescent OEM bulbs...Rear indicators, tail lights and reverse lights can also be fitted with LED's...as well as the side repeaters and front side lights on the bumpers...an...

LED replacement indicators

Has anybody ever fitted any LED indicators to their Z3, or any other car for that matter? I understand I might experience an irregular flash rate from original halogen bulbs, and the best way of rectifying this would be to change the relay or input resistors, correct? Any help on the situation would...

They were actually the front lights, still looking for clear side repeaters :-)

Re: Wanted: Z3 clear lights (front, sides and possibly back)

Hi there, best way to do the fronts is to keep your eye on eBay I won to individual auctions both had something wrong with them pop them in the oven get the lenses out and put them into yours. That's what I've been doing, not seen any that have been damaged so far, but a lot of international ones t...

Wanted: Z3 clear lights (front, sides and possibly back)

I'm looking for a set of clear side repeaters for my Z3 ('99 bumlift), or if anybody knows a good company to purchase them from I'd be interested to hear - not sure which eBay retailers to trust! I would also be on the look out for either the clear indicator parts to go in the front headlights, or t...

Re: Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Your car's not called Christine by any chance  The Plymouth might have been a more reliable choice, lol! Short in the lock signal wire would be my guess. Locking the car and putting the windows up can be done by holding the drivers door in the lock position until the windows close. This could...

Re: Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Update; when driving the car earlier, the car locked itself and closed the drivers and passengers windows automatically, and wouldn't let me reopen them. Something seems to have gone seriously wrong with the electrics, would this sort of thing show up on a diagnostics?

Re: Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Firstly I just want to say thank you for all the replies - great to be among enthusiasts who can lend a hand when needed! :) To me this hints at a battery problem - the clue is the clock resetting after the first episode. I can't see that an alarm/immobiliser issue would have any impact whatsoever o...

Re: Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Spoke too soon. It works fine, but then as soon as you lock the car using the key fob you start the whole ordeal over again. Don't think I can stand owning a car I have to leave the key in the ignition for 10mins for every time I want to take it out, so a call to BMW it will have to be! Before I she...

Re: Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Fixed. If anyone has this problem, exhaust all your options until your head clicks and you think "I wonder if the simple idea of putting the key in the ignition and leaving it for a while will recalibrate the coding to the car?" because it will. Put the key in to the first click position f...

Re: Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Hi Brian, Thanks for the reply. The boot wasn't left open yesterday, only the bonnet. My first port of call was to check the battery, but the boots deadlocked and I can't get in. I tried jump starting it using the terminals under the bonnet, but it shows no life at all after the ignition turns on, n...

Immobiliser won't allow me to unlock/start the car

Right, I had my bonnet open earlier whilst doing a bit of work on the Z3, and got caught out in the massive storm we had earlier today. Thought nothing of it as I rushed out and closed it as soon as I realised, but upon trying to open my car to drive my sister in to town, I found I couldn't. Only by...

Re: Assisting the purchase of my first Z3

Looks a nice car. I was trying the "spot the difference" quiz. :) Clear indicators. Colour-coded door handles Later version wheels Blue hood - or is that just the light? Correct! I also lowered it a tiny amount, think I'll go for either Eibach springs (like my two previous cars), or the s...

Still not had a chance to get proper pictures, I took these the weekend after I collected her, they're iPhone shots but I'll post up a new thread once she's been polished with some SLR shots. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a253/MarkZetec-S/IMG_7450_zpsa42d6a31.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/album...

Re: Assisting the purchase of my first Z3

Viewed the car on Wednesday and I was happy with how it was, negotiated the price to an agreed value then drove it home this evening. Fantastic fun to drive, quite different to my Clio but already feel comfortable with it. A nice novelty having the roof down around the M25, too :-)

Re: Assisting the purchase of my first Z3

Thanks for the answers guys - I'd love a 3.0 but with me being a student, and this only a weekend car, I can't quite justify the extra expenditure just yet. Anyway, put my Clio up for sale Saturday night and it had sold within 12hours - 8 of which I was sleeping for, so very happy there! Now serious...

Re: Assisting the purchase of my first Z3

Thanks for your reply. I assume the slats can be removed independently from the bumper, or is it all one piece? If I was to get a 2.8 I'd be looking at an M50 manifold, cat-back exhaust and potentially US-M3 cams and then a remap to get it all running right. Hopefully this will help give it a bit mo...

Assisting the purchase of my first Z3

Hi guys, I'm new the forum and I'm on the hunt for a Z3, I've currently got a Renaultsport Clio 182 which has got me through the last 3years whilst at uni, but I now fancy something a bit more 'grown up' before I start my masters, and of course to enjoy (hopefully) some nice weather in the mean time...
