It's always difficult to do long-distance fault diagnosis. Hands-on is hard enough. Are there any other indications of bad earth? i.e. flickering lights, battery light staying on (or flickering), gauges misreading etc. Not sure if that alarm system has a built in or replaceable backup-battery. A reg...

Slightly off thread
Foxy,
Did your chrome door handles come as standard - or another added bling?
Like the look of them, compared to my dull black. Might just have to consider those (xmas list?)

Cautionary post...
Just remember, all. Like a number of products out there, the metal pedals are 'not standard' and are designed for track use only.
Worst case is a VDRS to correct the pedals (unless you meet a less than understanding bobby - then you could be reported)

Water drain
DITTO!! In mucho abundance.
There's a rubber liner below the fuel cap with a small drain hole - doesn't take much to block it.
Thought it was fuel, first time i saw it - nearly died!!

Expected Performance?
All,
Had my '99 W 2.0 Z3 on a rolling road today. Simple compression checks and minor servicing.
Got 120 bhp at the wheels (5900rev in fourth). Is this about right?
Want no sniggering from those 2.8 and 3.0's at the back!! This is what i can afford (whilst I save for my Z4M!!!)

Throttle, stuff and thanks to all
I had my throttle cable lubricated at both ends when I had my thermostat changed last week. It's a bit better, but (as suggested above) i am now getting used to the feeling. It makes driving on the motorway (booooo) easy. Thanks for the heads up with the garage in Sale. I went to BAYMOW Motors in St...

Only did my hood last week - with the AutoGlym pack First bottle's a cleaner/conditioner. Second bottle's a protector. Worked really well - but a little expensive (£24). That will be enough for two protections. The water just sits on top, in bubbles - like on the polished body work, and then rolls o...

Just to add a last bit...
I also had my 'stat changed on Thursday - i now have hot air coming from those vent-like objects on the dash!! However, for anyone reading this at a later date, i also gathered some information about the different thermostat operations. It would appear that the early 1.8 and 1.9 Z3's had pure...

Keep going
You still need to try swapping the cables over, either at the input OR output to the amp. This alone should tell you if it's the head unit, or the amp.

Fault diagnosis
As above, from estocks. You need to do some logical diagnosis of the system. First, try swapping all the connectors from the left and right side. I don't have your version of Z3, so my head unit is the amp, however, i'm presuming from the above threads, the rear HK amp runs the lot - much better. If...

Battery indication
:?: I had a flat battery the other day! Probably my own fault. I had been doing some routine maintenance and listening to some good tunes (the interior light was also probably on). I then left the car for two days in the garage and when i returned to it, there wasn't even enough charge to turn the e...

I rang Donington yesterday
They said it was 1000 - 1600hrs, £8 pp.
Presuming the exhibition centre is at the same location as the track?

£450 is good - if it prevents you losing your head in a roll!
I always think the chrome bars look good though, FIXER will surely dissagree...

'Footrest'
ruud1boy, When you say 'footrest', are you referring to the narrow protrusion from the tunnel, next to the clutch? I don't think this is meant as a footrest in the normal useage - it's just wrong. As you say it's angled and too close. Whilst I don't seem to have a problem (with size 10's), others ha...

Repairing the soft top
Austin and Dalboy, I managed to repair my hood today - after the nylon string had come away from the spring. Relatively straight forward, however, when the hood is up, the spring on the repaired side is FAR more streched than on the 'original' side: Push the hood back and take off the rubber seal on...

soft top hood spring
I've got the same problem. Having looked at the passenger side, the spring should be connected to a length of nylon string which runs through a triangular shaped block and to the inner lining - keeping the lining taut when the roof is up. I'm currently tring to find a neat way of securing the string...

New car! - learning quickly. Some questions for you all
:D Hello All. Having just bought my first Z3 (W reg 2.0, in Topaz - photo's to follow when the weather improves), i've begun to enjoy life again! My wife has a BMW 120D sport - but she can keep it. A couple of questions. :?: 1/ can anyone give details of a reputable bmw specialist in the Manchester...
