No. Do a search and you'll find plenty of stories of people fitting aftermarket ones, then buying genuine ones. Get your friend's dad to promise to reimburse you for the aftermarket one when it doesn't work properly if he's that confident.

Does the car definitely have a rear sensor? Many UK cars only have a sensor before the cat (my '98 Z3 and my 2000 Subaru Legacy only have one). Remember, the post-cat sensor is there purely to monitor wheter the cat is functioning correctly by ensuring that post-cat emissions are within tolerance. T...

My advice - buy this for £25 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E36-Z3-Co ... 6016.l4276
I think you're on a hiding to nothing trying to sort the one you have and will end up spending far more than £25 trying to sort it.

I don't think any of the joints have mastic, as they're bolt-on wings. That area is outside the 'dry' area of the boot - if you look at where the boot rubber seal meets the boot aperture, then aything outside that is ok to get wet. Any water in the area you are looking at will drain away, but has no...

If you can't find the source of the leak I'd suggest pulling all the carpet out and liberally dusting talcum powder around the boot. That way you can see the tracks of any water in the talc, helping to identify the source.

You won't get any power to the compressor if you are low on pressure. If you really want to be sure, then beirfly jumper the pressure switch to see if the compressor kicks in.

The most likely problem is that it needs a regas. If the pressure is too low then the system won't engage. I'd definitely start with that.

It'll be 8mm internal diameter hose that is rated for fuel injection. The hose clips are dependent on the outer diameter of the hose, typically around 13-15mm. The really important thing is that the hose is rated for fuel injection, as there is still plenty of hose for carburetter cars around, which...

If your concern is about the wheels looking lost in the arch, then really the only option is to lower the car to reduce the gap. If you know which end of a spanner to use, and it sounds like you do, then it's not remotely complicated, just a bit more long-winded than swappng a radiator. I suspect that if you just got on and did it, you'd wonder what you were worried about.

The Z3 is very easy to swap the engine from, because the whole front of the car unbolts, meaning the engine comes straight out, rather than up-and-over. Get an engine from ebay, an engine crane (I think I paid about £120 for mine), undo a few bolts and away you go. Well, more or less.

I think it's far more likely you just have an old battery than a parasitic drain. Batteries do not respond well to being just left unused, so I'd consider this before potentially wasting time looking for a problem that isn't there.
