Re: Windscreen woes
I can't imagine that BMW make glass, so it seems reasonable to assume that they would come from the same place. Bonded windscreens all have a black band because that's where the adhesive goes - if it was clear it would look a right mess. I had a replacement put in by National Windscreens and it was ...

The dealer will probably just contract it out to a windscreen fitter anyway. And if they don't, I'd probably rather have Autoglass or similar do it, as they fit windscreens every day, than have the workshop junior have a go!

Yeah, you can reuse the screen - if you go for a proper full respray, or the frame needs some welding then the screen has to come out and get replaced. A skilled windscreen fitter will be able to do it.

An upper rear brace would be pointless because the top of the towers are located next to a u-section that runs across the car. I don't run any braces, but a lower rear one is supposed to deliver a decent benefit, albeit at the expense of some ground clearance. Have a look at this for some info: http...

Re: Fitting speakers in doors
There's no room in the door for the speakers to be set into, so they'd have to be 'surface mounted' - I guess you could use the door pocket as a space to accommodate them or you'd have to build an enclosure that mounts to the door card.

The headlight should point downwards by 1%, which means 1cm for every meter you are from the car. You just need to measure the height of the beam pattern right in front of the car, and then again at 1m to ensure the drop is there. Personally I'd measure it at something like 5m and look for a 5cm dro...

Sounds like the alarm fobs aren't sync'd with the system. My other half has a MX5 and I had to re-sync the fobs, but I can't remember how (I do recall that it was very easy). I'd have thought that a google for the alarm model should find the owner's manual and explain what to do.

I believe that if the ABS unit has been emptied then you need to use INPA/DIS to activate the solenoids in the pump, otherwise you can't get the air out. However, I've not had to do it myself, so I'm sure someone that has will be alone soon!

The radio alarm switch isn't part of the wiring to the radio - the original radio has a 'prong' that sticks out of the back and locates in a hole containing a switch. If you have an aftermarket stereo than that switch needs to be disabled, or you need to stick a pen lid in the hole where the prong w...

Just to rule the blowers out, can you remove the blower relay from inside the fuse box and then see if you still get the fuse blowing? If you leave the switch unplugged that does isolate everything from the switch to the actual mirrors. Under what circumstances does the fuse blow exactly? Do you have a multimeter? If not, I'd suggest you get one as that will make fault finding a lot easier. They're not expensive - Screwfix have one...

According to my wiring digram pin 4 is live, but is green with a black marker. The brown wire is an earth (hence the bulb lights). I think you are confusing yourself with the wiring diagram because 4 is brown at the mirror, not the switch.

The problem with anything other than haogen bulbs in a fitting designed for halogen bulbs is that you just get a lot of light scatter. A halogen bulb emits light from a very small, precise point (the filament) and the reflectors and lenses are designed to direct light originating only from that poin...
