Anyone up for a Christmas meal??

Post by rgf »

Cruises and shows will soon be coming to an end, it will be dark at 4pm and the soft tops will be going up for the long months of winter.

How about a get together at Christmas to help us through?

I would be happy to organise a pre-Christmas lunch-time event if anyone else is interested.

I have enquired about having a private room at the Waterton Park Hotel, just outside Wakefield. This is a grand 4* hotel just 3 miles off the M1 and 6 miles from the M62.
See www.watertonparkhotel.co.uk

I am suggesting Sunday 5th December - arrive for a coffee and a natter before having lunch. I might even prepare a short quiz.
The three-course lunch is £18.95 See the Christmas functions menu on the website.

We really need 30+ to make this viable. If you can express interest in this thread, I can then make a provisional booking if we get the numbers. A deposit (unreturnable) would then be needed. No money needed at this stage!

Let me know what you think! A decision will have to be made within about two weeks so we don't miss the room booking - so don't dilly dally in confirming your interest.
Thanks, Roy

It is certainly a nice place to stay if anyone from far a field is thinking of staying the night and using the hotel facilities.

This is looking good!
That's 22 people so far. Apparently the room can hold 140 so don't hold back thinking you have missed out!

For those who need appetities wetting, here is the menu:

Chilled Melon, sweetened berry compote, fruit coulis
Smooth Chicken Liver Paté, spiced fruit chutney, toasted brioche
Leek and Potato Soup
***
Traditional Roast Turkey, chipolata sausage, stuffing and pan gravy
Grilled Pork Loin Steak, caramelised apples, red wine gravy
Fillet of Scottish Salmon, lemon cream sauce with vanilla
Spinach and Riccotta Parcels, with puff pastry on stewed tomatoes, light cream herb
***
Festive Christmas Pudding, brandy sauce
Plum and Custard Tart, chantilly cream
Rum and Hazlenut Roulade, créme Anglaise
***
Freshly Ground Coffee and Mints

£18.50 per person

Yes, £18.50, not £18.95 like I originally said. A few more Yorkshiremen might go now!

Keep those names coming!

Yep that's about the time it took Aiden and me when we came over to Walney - with a couple of quick Costa stops on the way :D'

Anyway 20 mins can be quite tiring late at night so might just after to book a room (need brownie points and our wedding anniversary is on the 9th)

If there are quite a few wanting to stay Glenn and you need any help with the organising just shout.

I know how simple arrangements for meals and accommodation can get a bit overpowering as the numbers grow and people have to start choosing meals etc.

Happy to help if you need it, happy to shut up if you don't :D

Hi Snoops, well im thinking of staying over on the saturday night, rooms are a bit pricey so any discount in that direction would be welcommed, otherwise we may stay in Haworth, sort of en-route again :D

I have been to visit the hotel today - it really is a very nice setting! I will see if I can get any deals on room charges when I talk with the events organiser after the Bank Holiday.

Tomorrow I am going away up t'Dales for a couple of days walking but will post again as soon as I have more info next week.

This event is definitiely a goer!

Happy Christmas
