Euro Trip with Maurice the Martian and Zedwheels

Post by billz » Sun 13 Jan, 2013 08:36

After both doing euro trips last year both Me and Mozza have decided to go on holiday in August, obviously we have to take the other halfs
Also after posting this up elsewhere Zedwheels has decided to join us in his Alpina
We leave Friday 9th August
Down to Dover for either Ferry or Channel tunnel
Friday we either stay in Calais (even mozza doesnt know this bit) or drive slightly south to Berk sur Mer
We then Drive to Mulhouse France and stay Saturday night here.

Then on Sunday we drive into Switzerland and stay at a place called Oberwald which is in the middle of the Furkapasse and stay at the Hotel Alpenhof
Then after taking in the remainder of the Furkapasse we travel over to lake como staying here till Friday

Then we have booked a Villa in Tarregona till the following Saturday before we drive home Saturday and Sunday.
All hotels and villa are booked.
I will post the proposed routes when i have pulled them off my Garmin. Both me and Mozza will update this thread as we go.

Saturday 10/8/13 Route

Sunday 11/8/13 Route

Monday 12/8/13 Route
https://maps.google.com/?saddr=46.53299 ... vgIdVPmOAA

These will probably change when i meet with Maurice and we have a proper sit down and go through the routes. We plan on maxamising our time in the Alps to take as much as possible in, instead of blasting through and then wishing we had done it differently. Luckily both me and Maurice have the same ideas and are both very flexible and willing to adjust to what each other wants to do when we are there.

I'm jealous. We did this run over Furkapass in 2009 and it was just fantastic. Don't forget to stop at the hotel at the top for magic views and the best hot chocolate with cream. If you get a chance to go to Grindlewald on route its worth it for the view of the Eiger North Face. Have fun.

If you get chance the Car Museum in Mulhouse is stunning. And I do mean stunning.

The railway museum nearby is also very very good - if you like steam engines - which I do.
Sapphire black/Imola red and black interior/ red roof/ S54 - the only RHD one made.

We visited this museum last year, as Phil says it is world class, and a cafe on site too...
