thank you Titan for your responce,and the welcome. I am not used to this technology , when I said Mp3 player I ment a replacement for the existing six disc changer which has become faulty and no longer works
I think I should have said is the space in the consol a standard din opening

Very few companies make a six disk in-dash changer. One of them is worth a lot of money.

And you should not need an adaptor plate to fit a new radio in your DIN slot, although you may need a BMW 17 pin to ISO wiring adaptor available for £5 on eBay or £25 at halfords. You may already have one fitted in the car.
