Speaker Upgrades - help needed

Post by shantybeater »

Hi Guys,

For a while now i've been looking at upgrading the speakers in my Z.

Can anyone tell me what size speakers I require? I have a 98 M Roadster without the Subwoofer. As far as I can see we have one 2-3" speaker behind each seat, tweeters in the top of the door and another set behind kick panels??

Also what sort of setup do people suggest? I will be looking at getting a subwoofer to compliment if that makes any difference.

I plan on running the standard Head unit to keep an OEM appearance but amp the components seperately

Hi mate the fronts are 5 1/4" (13cm) Get your self a decent set of components.

These would do the trick and mount everything in the stock locations for
a stealth look

I would also recommend a decent 4ch amp like this to run the sub
and front speakers.

Forget the rears they are 2 small and would just ruin the soundstage.

I'm hoping to keep things OEM but cheers anyway Si

Dooby I went for k2's in the end:

Can you recommend a few good amps for them? (and the sub)

Also is there no point at all upgrading the 4" rears?

I used to have 165 K2p's and now run a utopia No6 kit. You will love them.
As for the amp this is abit of a bargain and what I used to run my K2's on.

Or if you can spend abit more and want something really special.

Forget the rears, they will seriously c0ck up the front soundstage when
running a decent system.
I know you said about keeping the standard headunit but they are rubbish. Spend the rear speaker money on one of these.

They look pretty retro (I run one in my 91 Cooper S) and are great for Sq.
