Alpine Audio

Post by mrloneranger »

What do i do, i'm in a dilemma.

My standard CD player keeps coming up with error. I can't fix it :head: . I 've decided its time to get rid of it, looking through i've seen an amber light alpine cd head unit which looks pretty good. £170

Shall i just get that or do i need a cd changer ? ?!.

By getting a new head unit would i need better speakers or will i see an improvement with the new unit on its own?

Looking through ebay there are bmw changers but the prices are about £100. I Might aswell get a new one.

Are there any other amber light units i.e. pioneer etc that don't look to O.T.T.

Hi ...

I think I would stay with std speakers just now, buy a nice Alpine (or similar) MP3 head unit and scrub the changer...

Sell the changer on fleabay (and headunit? - go search for "faulty" on ebay...) and use the money to upgrade speakers ionc eyou have sold it.

You may have the NSF amp to bypass... which is a 2 min job.

IMHO the nicest head unit that I have plans to buy is Sony's CD8800 which is MPS, has an active black panel and its blue display will look at home in an Estoril car. I've seen plenty of deals on the net ranging from 200-250. Halford by comparison still want £350. It's a quality peice of kit. I thknk Alpina units look a bit busy (as many do) for the retro interior.

Yes that's alovely head unit. The Sony 9900 is similar and has even more resolution from what I recall and is cheaper based on current deals. However the Sony unit doesn't lok as good as the top line EXAD unit from JVC, which is very uncluttered and the JVC sound repro is supposed to be even better than the Sony.

honesty obliges me to tell you I work at JVC - hence my rose tinted glasses - and not having the need to fork out any money for mine.... made my choice rather easy! :D

Just seen the nice jvc for quite a bit cheaper than on JVC's site.

http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/incar/j ... klinx=3405

Try this link. £294.11 opposed to £499 Thats £200 for fitting

commercially it works a bit different

The £400 is offer (which I agree is rather expensive) is not actually a commercial transaction between JVC and end-user, however it was a launch offer agreed by JVC selected ICE specialist who would make the actual sale (& the margin) rather than JVC itself

DABS as a non ICE specialist, is not part of this offer, is just shifting boxes, and decided to undercut its own margin (trust me their margin is a lot lower than ICE specialist) and offer it as such low price.

Quite a straightforward business model used in many industries.

As for the wiring, the head unit comes with the industry standard ISO connectors so fitting is straightforward as is re-fitting the old model again in the future.

For under £300 you get a head unit that is hard, if not impossible to beat

with staff discounts at an all time low, you will actually find that the retail offer by DABS can actually not be beaten...: staff get lower discounts than dealers! :head: :head: :head: :head:

Hi

Just had an alpine 9835 fitted with the ipod interface. Excellent bit of kit that complements the z3 dash (alliminium finish). Sounds excellent with a vast array of functionality. It was a bit pricey but you can find significant discounts if you look around. With regards to the wiring and the std z3 amp, the installers ran new wiring to the front speakers so I can simply put the old kit back in when required.

After all this i've decided to go for the sony cd8800. I'm looking at buying from www.caraudiodirect.co.uk. they also do an adapter to convert existing wiring to an iso plug.

I'm guessing i need this :?

Tips required for removing the old unit. Do i need pins or can i use a screwdriver ?????

Advice please
Much appreciated
