BETTER DRIVING WITH A CUSTOM LEATHER ARMREST

Post by Southernboy »

Some members have purchased these armrests from me in the past. They are specifically for the Z3, and are covered in genuine leather. The choice of colour or combination of colours is yours, and doesn't change the cost. They are designed to fit onto the BMW OEM cupholder, which slots into the center console. In using the cupholder, one does lose the use of the ashtray. The cupholders are available from BMW and also are often for sale on eBay.
Fitting the armrest provides a comfortable driving position since your left arm has somewhere to relax other than clinging to the gearknob or steeringwheel...It is comfortably padded and allows for easy use of the handbrake. It is hinged so you have access to the storage box beneath the armrest.
They are available at £.69.00 each including packing / postage to UK / EU.

OEM Tannin Red is not available any longer, However, I may have a source for a piece which will do the trick...I must just speak to a member in Italy....He has some "leftovers" of a second hand piece he sourced...If I can get some from him...then no problem...It will mean a few extra bob to get the leather out here first...But all things are possible... Let me know if you will accept a tannin red top with a black edge??? I'll get back to you on your request asap...

it's me having some taninrot leather.

BUT is far than perfect, because are the remaining parts from a used seat I used to make my brand new driver's seat. you can see here to understand.
the remaining pieces I stored apart are the ruined ones, most used, and in various points scratched. as you can imagine, ALL the brand new leather parts was used by me. I stored all the "bad" pieces apart not because they're good, but because this color is no longer available /(and who has this leather tone seats and other parts sell it at crazy prices).
I could send some pieces to S.boy, but I can't assure the result will be perfect.

if you're interested, I can send some pieces to southernboy, but I suggest you to buy a full black brand new one. And eventually use leather fresh to paint it in taninrot (there are a lot of ebay seller from germany that sells the perfect matching tone for almost all bmw colours, I used it a lot of time before repairing my seat. ;)
Seeing them making photos, i saw there are 2 pieces, plain taninrot, in excelent conditions: the instrument cluster cover and head backrest. maybe this can be useful, but I don't know if is enough and how much asking you for it (as you can imagine, this color is now extermely rare, even if at crazy prices. is out of production from 2006)

Anyone else looking for Tannin Red leather...it seems there is some available here in SA...about 90% accurate colour match....
I photographed the same piece with different background colours..this should give an indication as to it's colour...

I like the arm rests but just my preference, is it possible to have the leather top made in one piece for a smooth finish like the leatherZ ones? http://leatherz.com/Merchant5/merchant. ... e=Interior

It is possible to do that. However, it requires being pressed into a mould, and also using extremely thin leather. The item as advertised by Leatherz is a process similar to the application of the black vinyl on the armrest on your doorcard. The armrest from Leatherz is a pretty hard item, as per the door armrest in the Z3. Not exactly very comfortable, but provides a place to put your forearm.
Below is a pic of the doorcard armrests I make up...these are shaped so the thin edge you can see will fit under the padded area of the doorcard above the OEM armrest. It is a fairly solid foam inside that can be shaped etc.. Quite similar to the Leatherz product...

I realize you were referring to the center armrest...That's what I was replying to...it's a pressed mould required to achieve that "one piece" look...same way doorcards are made....

PS....The doorcard speaker is another of my mods...connected to the "tweeter" connection, but this baby can really be heard in your ears vs your feet listening to the footwell speakers, and the back of the seat listening to the rear speakers....
.and with my "soundproofing containment" innovation for the footwell speakers - obliges the sound to come into the car vs being lost in the void behind it - the overall cockpit sound is hugely enhanced...
Image

Added to which, I replaced the entire boot carpet from thin OEM "cardboard" type trim for "Super Aerotouch" carpeting....this has cut out the road noise from the rear by almost 100%...which has enhanced the efforts of the rear speakers to be actually heard...
