Am I right that these blanking spacers or whatever they are called are fitted to the later or bigger engined cars whilst the others had a bigger fog light that filled the whole aperture?

Has anyone considered fitting some kind of small LED daytime running light into this? Would be interested to see how this looks? Or maybe some american style amber 'cruising lights?' Now that would look retro but not sure of the legality

Nope. These are on a pre-facelift 1.9. The size and shape are down to the different front bumpers - the larger engine cars tend to have deeper bumpers with larger mesh central apertures - on the 1.9 the central aperture is actually blanked off with a black plastic piece.

Mines a 2.8 facelift and I'm sure I have these? And I don't think I have 'larger mesh central apertures' either?

I'm not saying that a 2.8 doesn't have them, just that they will be a different shape - just checked the part number for the 1.9 and it says 1.8/1.9 only.

I feel a front bumper comparison photo mash-up thingymajig coming on... Will have to try and hunt down some front on shots of the different bumpers...
