You can use any oval M mirror - like from an M3 or 5... they are identical to the Z3 M mirror...so try searching eBay under those models too...
like this one..... you simply replace the "leg" on your OEM mirror onto the oval mirror. And if it's an auto dimming type mirror, it simply requires running 2 little wires from under the dash, up through the windscreen pillar and across to the mirror behind the plastic trim at the top of the windscreen... Really very simple conversion to do...
Here's a ling to a Z3 M mirror for sale..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z3-M-Road ... SwOtBXTLP0
here's a link for you... It has some "leakage" in the mirror though..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-M3-E46-Re ... SwdU1W9mdQ
or this link... this one has no leakage, so would actually be a better buy... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E46-M3-E3 ... Swt7pXL3og

Now that u made it so easy to make this auto dimming uprage i consider that!
Search a bit about it, but all auto dimming mirrors i saw have 3 wires, not 2... any idea why?

Saw all 30 minutes.
Looks like an interesting thing to do! Id really like to do that!
A couple of questions... if ur willing to help
1. Reverse signal... what is it? I did not understand how that diming works..
2. Do we have the same fuse box behind the glovebox in our zed like the 3 serie?
3. Do wire colors that we have to connect in the fuse box are similar as the 3 serie?
Thanks!!

Re: Z3m rear view mirror wanted
If you're referring to the e36 Three series - then the wiring is almost idetical. The fuse box on the Z3 is in the engine compartment - on the passenger side. So basically they moved it from behind the glove box to the engine bay on the same side of the car...
Wiring from one fuse box or the other would be much the same, since you're taking power from the same fuse connection in the fuse box.
I 'm not sure about the reverse signal thing - I think just stick to getting the basic set-up done, so that when the sensor detects light from behind, it dims the mirror.

My Z3 is a 3.0 and the alarm electrics are inside the rear view mirror.Antm72 wrote:You could use one from a Convertible mini they are a direct fit too.
Do you know if they will fit into the convertible mini mirror?
Thanks

That talks about an auto dimming mirror which I'm not bothered about. Just would like a smaller mirror and had given up on the idea because M mirrors are always so expensive.
Manual dipping Mini mirrors are pretty cheap so I think I might give it a go.

Same mount as I recall... I know it wasn't a problem to fit it when I did mine.
