Forum Maintenance - Saturday 17th June 2017 12-3pm

Post by Robert T »

I will be taking the site down at noon tomorrow for maintenance. The main purpose of this is to move to a new server, but in the process I will be upgrading the forum to the latest phpBB, which offers better performance and greater security. During this time, the site will be taken offline, so will not be available to use. All being well we should be back up and running on the new server at around 3pm tomorrow. There may be a delay in the DNS changes propagating, so you may still be directed to the old server for a little while afterwards. Care has been taken to preserve the look and feel of the site and whilst one or two things have moved around a little, it should feel familiar as soon as you log-in. I will post status updates on our Facebook page during the upgrade.

Cheers R.

Upgrade complete at 14:12. Changes to the DNS may need to propagate before you are directed to the new server and should settle over the next few hours. If you still see a page showing the that forum is offline, please keep refreshing your browser.

Please ask if you cannot find something, as one or two things have moved. This is for things like buttons and settings, etc. - the structure of the forum itself has not changed, so topics and posts are exactly where they were previously.

Please let me know if anything is missing - all smilies, avatars, file attachments and knowledegebase images have been brought across.

Cheers R.

There was a slight issue with Tapatalk after the DNS changes took effect. The Tapatalk plugin has now been upgraded to the latest version and is now working again.

Reading about these changes I would just like to say, and I'm sure all users will agree with me, a BIG thank you to the guys who set up and maintain this site. I've had my Z3 for nearly nine years and I joined the site before buying it. This site has been a source of entertainment and interest for all those years and must have saved me a fortune in money and hours of frustration as I do all my own repairs and maintenance. Thanks again.

I agree, the guys at the sharp end rarely get the credit they deserve for a thoroughly entertaining and informative forum.

Hi Robert, as the others have mentioned we are all very grateful for your continued hard work.

I had noticed one thing - before the update on the Home page, the 'Recent Topics' window would stop scrolling when the mouse pointed entered it - this made it easy to control the scrolling and to click on a specific link. On the new version the scrolling continues and that makes it difficult to click on the correct link - is the 'pausing' a setting in the software that could be re-enabled or a feature that has disappeared in the new version?

Cheers!

Thank you all for the messages of support.

As for the recent topics. It's a setting in software in that it it is my code that does it! I thought it was working correctly when I was testing, but I will double-check. The structure of the page changed in the new version, so it is possible that one of the event handlers is not attaching properly.

After using a forum for some time, I can say, technically it's much better now! Thanks!
