group buy - strut brace

Post by nicolawright »

thought i'd start a new thread for this.

i have put off getting a front strut brace look enough and will definitely get one shortly.

i don't want to spend too much £, so thinking about an e-tech or cosmos strut brace. having read viewtopic.php?t=9831, i think e-tech may be the way to go as there's less issues with fitting...

think we need at least 10-15 definites to haggle a discount

Well done Nicola for getting this started.

I had an Etech one on Topaz which was a perfect fit with no clearance issues whatsoever.
Unfortunately, none of the standard models fit the S54 ///MR, so I had to sell it.
The Etech is excellent value for money, but the Cosmo ones look the biz though!

If you haven't already, you should get in touch with the suppliers straight away and get an idea of what discount you can get for how many purchases. That'd give you a figure to aim for.

You might also find out that the saving would be so small, it's just not worth the hassle.

Good luck.

Hi Nicola,

Well done for starting off this idea. I will certainly be in if its the Cosmo (Heard better reports) and they do one suitable for the S50 engined M Coupe.

I look forward to more info being posted.

Thanks again.

Hi Nicola, I would be in....... any idea of price, and are there different part numbers for different Z3s, would we still get a group discount if we are buying different parts?

You can add me to the 'interested' list

Just need prices now. Not overly concerned which model of brace you go for - as long as they do the job.
I spent most of my money on whisky, women and Z3's. The rest I just wasted.

All the 6cylinder ones should fit each other (my 2.8 brace is now on my M), I think its the 1.9 that is different as its a taller engine?

Hello Nicola,
A group of us in New Zealand have just purchased sruts from Cosmo in a bulk buy. Cosmo were helpfull and easy to deal with. Freight is a big portion of the cost out here and cosmo helped with their discount.

Strong Strut was also a contender but the cost (by the time our terrible exchange rate and freight was added) was unjustifiable.

We estimate we saved about a third of the price compared to buying individually. We are still a bit concerned about the bonnet clearance issues but will know more about that this weekend when we have had a trial fit. I will post the results if that helps. It was worth the effort as long as your members get bums off seats and order reasonably quickly.
Send them the www address so they can see which bar they need before they start bothering you with silly questions.
Good Luck.

All the ones i have seen on ebay.com by cosmo say they do not fit, but looks like they offer the option.

On the S54 Z3 ///M Roadster, there is a pipe in the way right in the centre of the engine which I believe is air intake (thanks ///M Murf).

If your strut passes over this it will probably clash with the bonnet, (unless you're Garythefish who I think has got away with it somehow!).

To be sure of avoiding this pipe and the bonnet, your strut brace needs to go round this pipe, either behind, as in bent, or surrounding it like the ACS frame type.

Thing is, Flamez is talking about a ///MZ4, which could have a different layout altogether.

If someone could post a pic of a ///MZ4 engine bay, I'll have a look and see if I can tell.

Alfie - I know of only two that fit the Z4M - one is the BMW one - the other is the Strongstrut trio - I have the latter fitted - and it looks great - the S54 Engine between the two cars is the same - it has the pipe across the centre

The pipe I'm referring to is right below the mid point of the main brace.

Guys

Just to let you know I recently purchased the Cosmo Strut for the 1.9 M44.
I experienced a number of clearance issues with the hood.
Paul from Cosmo is getting back to me with a fix or possibly a new design.

Strut for my MR was £109 inc delivery from Cosmo.

£100 all in.

Recommend it strongly (as will anyone else who has fitted one). No Z should be without one. I believe you can get one as an accessory for the Z4 from dealers. They should be fitted as standard.

Hi

I want a front strut, and a butt strut for my M coupe S54, the cosmo looks good, and the price is justifiable, has anyone had the butt strut from them,, or do they even do one?

And is the group buy going ahead, or has that boat sailed?

dont think the group buy is going ahead :head: . I would just buy one yourself.

even if it was, for the sake of a approx 5% discount, its just not worth the chew of sending unknowns your money for them to send on.

Think i am just gonna order off the website.

I ordered one from SS too. Still not a bargain (although it's great kit) but with the exchange rate the way it is there's no better time to get stuff from the States.
