Need for speed
I bought a mint condition 2000 year / 01 reg 2.2i with only 49k on the clock and a full service history back in April this year. All is well and it runs as sweet as a nut. Permanent grin from ear to ear... (any chance of some sunshine???)
Anyway.... Nice as it is I have a need for (more) speed.
I am looking for suggestions on how I can up the power. What can you do for what budget?
I'm going to take it to the Alps next summer and rip up and down the Stelvio pass etc and will need to be able to keep up with the big money boys in their expensive toys...
All suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Swap it for a 3.0 or an M

Im in the same boat at the minute, 2.2 2001 z3.
I have upgraded rims and tyres to 18" with Vred's, but still lacking on suspension and brakes.
Looking for a strut brace to start with then move to coilovers. Only problem i have is the front is low enough on standard shocks/spring but the back sits way too high! So looks like coilovers should sort this out.
Anyone got recommendations on strut braces upto the £150 mark for the straight 6? Looking for something simple bolt on job with no hastle of rubbing (some forum members have experianced this)
Also anyone done a brake upgrade on their 2.2? Looking for something <£1000 for this front and rear, if not rear then just front would do.
Any help would be great as im still not very acquainted with the z3 modding

Re the brakes, try non OEM pads first as the OEM brakes should be fine short of spending >£1,000 on BBK which you should not really need for a daily driver ?
I've bought EBC yellowstuff to try on mine when I get chance. From what I've read / been advised this should be enough for a non track car (albeit I've got ///M calipers but principle should be the same). I've driven my brothers 2.2 and thought the brakes were fine on that for daily driving / spirited run ?

Thanks for the reply, the oem brakes didnt prove very useful for me as i ended rear ending someone Caused quite a bit of damage but all repairs were done via bmw but as a cause the insurance has skyrocketed!
Il try the redstuff first as i have those on my 1 series and are really good.
Any thoughts on which strut brace to go for? and coilovers also? what will i be looking for a good set of those?

I didnt say i was trying to make it faster, just yetmarcusplowman wrote:Youve already rear ended someone in a 2.2 and now you want to make it faster? Id consider a 1.8 conversion if I was you
im trying to make it stop faster and handle better which would prevent such from happening again (already done this with my daily driver)
And the faster part will come very soon after due to my diesel outrunning the zed which is just not right.

Cool thanks, what you looking for them and would they also fit the 2.2?BenZ3-2.0 wrote:I recomment the E-tech strut brace. Can be bought for about £130ish.
I have a set of AP coil overs brand new never used if you are interested.
Does it lower the front end or can this be chosen, reason being the front is near enough low as it can get with the 18" on but the back end sits too high which is very strange!
Front and rear are adjustable. ( i have the exact same set fitted to my car, outstanding!!)

Looking for £300 collected or £350 delivered
I have had the e-tech brace on for around two years now, never any probs and improves the handling no end. Although I did have poly bushes fitted on the ARB and suspension arms at the same time.

I suggest that the Rogue eniginering top mounts will be best. NOt sure where they are cheapest.
