definitive answer on strut brace

Post by theskippies »

Hi all
Does the e36 2.8 brace fit the z3 2.8?
Has anyone done it? Loads listed for e36 next to none for z3 and the posts I've read so far don't seem to clarify what fits

Looks good but will have to modify it slightly as there is no cut out for the earth stud. Link below is the thread I started on the same subject

Just make sure it will clear the raised gubbins on the inlet side after the air filter. My 1998 2.8 has this, has your's? What is it and what does it do? It's not there I think on later 2.8's
I need to know this. Anyone? Mike F are you receiving me over.................?

Cheers all,

Bonzo

On the 2.8 (and other models I presume) the car with either be Single Vanos or Dual Vanos. The Dual Vanos cars are newer and flatter across the top of the engine making it easier to fit a strut brace. The raised gubbins you are referring to suggest that your car is a Single Vanos (same as mine) so you need to be much more careful when shopping for a brace that will fit.

Looks good bud. The really bad news is that they have no more stock  I've emailed them to find if / when they will be getting more in.

Hi Skippies, what difference was there to the ride, vibrations, handling etc. after you fitted the strut brace?

Cheers,

Bonzo.

ps Gedo, mine is a single vanos, so the brace the skippies used should fit ours!

Hi bonzo, it feels a little 'stiffer' on the steering and not as floaty from the front can't say I've noticed a huge difference to the handling but it does feel more responsive on the steering wheel but it may be just my imagination :D
I've also fitted spacers to the back wheels now to fill the arches and all round it feels more planted on the road
