DYK....OEM Mirror bases

Here's an interesting bit of info...as in the pic attached, you can see that the bases for left and right hand wing mirrors are of different sizes at the face where they fit to the door. The larger is for the passenger side....

There was a thread recently where spurs was selling a pair of LHD ///M mirrors, the question was asked about the difference between RHD and LHD mirror sets, this is good for reference.

TBH I hadn't noticed the significant variation before...I happened to get these out to get them cleaned up so I could start prepping to make bases...No mirror images here...so 2 completely different items...apart from function and general ovoid shape, they might be for different cars if one didn't know. I think the reason is the passenger base is also somewhat thicker than the driver side - the metal part - which would account for the larger footprint.
