Interesting stuff, personally I would always inform, on the basis that generally no insurance company likes to pay out so any little excuse...We're all for a bit of subtle performance here at TBMW when it comes to Munich's best, but leading insurance company Adrian Flux has issued a reminder that not declaring modifications on your car is not only illegal, it could cost you money as well.
Many modders don't declare the upgrades for fear of the premium sky-rocketing, so despite paying a premium., they are not insured at all and in the event of a claim, the insurance company will refuse to pay it. Ironically declaring mods may mean your premiums actually fall.
Flux's Gerry Bucke said "We reckon as many as 30% of drivers under the age of 25 who mod their car don't inform their insurers which means they are driving illegally and are not insured. Strange as it might seem, a modification will not automatically increase your premium. Indeed specialist insurers can actually reduce your premium following a modification, on the basis that the owner is going to drive more carefully as a result of his or her investment"
