Re-Map advice please

Post by jimmithemoonlite »

Hi,
I was seriously considering having my 2011 s-drive 35i re-mapped.
I have been unwell for a number of years and to be truthful I have lost touch with the whole performance upgrade scene, I've never had a car re-mapped or fitted with a cold air intake etc. In the passed I have always tried to buy the most powerful model of any particular car I was thinking of buying. For example I bought an Audi TT and rather buy the 180 or 225 I waited till I could find a nice example of the 3.2 Vr6, I was aware that the 225 especially could be tuned to be higher that the stock Vr6, but I did not wish to go down that road. I still have that car and wouldn't part with it.

All that said, I have really caught the Z bug And without spending a fortune I would like to see if I can do something relatively cheap and easy and I'm thinking a re-map, and It's been suggested I would need to do some sort of intake or exhaust work to really get the full benefit of the re-map.

I would welcome some genuine advice please, and I can do without the sarcasm and stupid replies as frankly they make you look stupid not me.

I am just a pensioner who wishes to make my truly awesome vehicle just a bit more individual.

Cheers

My daily driver is a turbocharged Audi and many Audi owners use a firm called Revo who have nationwide operators. I haven't used them myself (I keep mine standard :D ) and I'm not sure if they just specialise in VAG cars. It sounds as if you want something designated "stage 1" which just optimises current performance and removes flat spots etc. I know that many youngsters get addicted to these and go for stage 2 and above (not really designed for standard cars) and keep burning out clutches etc.

For my Z3 I used Avon Tuning and the result was around 10% more BHP and a more responsive throttle response - even for a normally aspirated 1.9 engine.

Here's a link which may be of interest just for a "technical read - they have a good reputation locally. It's really a case of finding a firm local to you with a good reputation for BMW tuning.

A good remap firm will first check you car for faults to make sure it is in top condition and then spend a couple of hours on the rolling road and laptop

I've had two of my BMW's remapped.

The first was a 2.8 done by BMW Chiptune in West London, very very pleased.

The second is my S54 M Roadster done by Evolve in Luton, They are very experienced Tuners.
My advice would be to contact Evolve and ask if they could recommend someone specialised in BMW in your area.
