Help!! Spec decision - Not me and not BMW!

Post by Giles »

My brother has been trying to spec a Renault Megane R26 all week but can't decide on what colour/wheel combo.

In addition to trying to talk him out of buying a French car (!!??!!), I'm trying to make him see sense that RED alloys look total shite....

His current preference is Lunar Grey with red alloys.

Personally I'd pick White with black alloys, or maybe Lunar Grey with black alloys. What do you lot think?

I think you should stick with the 1.8 A5. :)

Man, that looks nasty. Red alloys are clearly the mark of the Stevie Wonder school of design. White with black, Lunar with black or Black on black.

I don't suppose there's any chance of him losing those rather gash decals? :(

I'd go for Lunar grey or black purely for the fact it hides the crap carbon bonnet. Otherwise if you can have the bonnet painted I'd choose white with black wheels.

Apparently there was a decal delete option, but it was withdrawn to save money. Now there's French logic :?

I've suggested a second hand 135 Coupe instead in white with red leather. About the same dosh too :)

I agree with your options Giles -- please not the red wheels :head:
Sapphire black/Imola red and black interior/ red roof/ S54 - the only RHD one made.

Mention depreciation to your brother on the 135 and then remind him it has no slippy diff if he was thinking of trackdays!

If it's a Reggie, it's got to be Yellow and it's got to have the Red wheels!

It's lovely in that configurator and I've just re-read EVO's Car Of The Year, so do it (Giles' brother that is)!

I will refer to what Clarkson said about potential owners of such a car :D

But to respond to the post - black with black or yellow with black

NOT RED

But he does know its a Renault he's buying?

The only time red alloys have any chance of looking okay is if the interior is red and grey or red and black but if he must have red on his wheels somewhere why not his brake calipers.

Personally I'd go for black on black with a renault and then debadge.
Now with both the 411 bhp Supercharged Z3MR and a WRX STi Wagon getting a 3.4 litre transplant and an XKR with mods planned.

Fast is good, faster is better. Wheeeeee !!!

Depending on his age.......

20 - 25 Yellow with Black wheels

25 - 30 White with Black wheels

30 - 35 Lunar with Black wheels

Above all I'd have a 135i :)

It's reassuring to see that in these days of credit crunch...there are still people who can afford to chuck thousands and thousands away on depreciation...does madness run in your family???? :D :D

Whatever colour you paint it, it'll still look like a French shopping trolley. :shake:

I like the look of the Megane, it looks quite purposeful there.

I think either the Liquid Yellow or White with black wheels looks best.

Black with black IMHO looks best.

If it makes it to twenty yeas old, into the French hot hatch collectors market, it might be more desirable with the red wheels. I'm thinking along the lines of the Pirelli wheels on the 205GTi or the pepperpot alloys on an XR3. A cliche at the time, but more valuable to collectors.

Edit: Just looked at your link. The red wheels do look terrible, and seeing as they are available in black, that's what I'd order. :head:
