Opinions please - Wheels

Post by Gazza »

I came across this pic on PH, I've been thinking about new wheels and would like opinions on these against the Estoril colour.

They look great on Black but on Estoril ?????

Gary, I like them. If you're comfortable with having a harsher ride than with 17's, go for them. The look suits the Z very well. :)

First thing I think about with wheels is how difficult are they to clean and I can guarantee those will be a sod to do and keep clean :shake:

They look great when they are clean but I bet not half as good when they are dirty.

Thats whats so great about the stock wheels, 2 min to clean and they don't look too bad when not :D

Plus I think the extra size would be too much of a ride / handling compromise for me

To be honest, after having had my aftermarket alloys for a year (almost) they don't seem so fiddly to clean. One thing is for sure though, with the polished lips on the rims above, you'll be wanting to put some sealant down. They scratch very easily.

Gary, go for the 18" BBS LMs. IMHO 19s don't suit the Z3

They suit the Black a lot more than the Estoril.

In my opinion 19 inch wheels look too big on the z3 and those particular wheels are not as nice as the BBS LM's i think if i was thinking of a change i would put 18" BBS LM's

like I say personnel opinion

Opinions are what I asked for, fore and against :D

The more I look at the first pic, the more I am going against them on an Estoril car. Superb on Black though.

I did have 18" on my 2.8 and the ride was fine.

They are about 1/3 of the price of LMs though (if you can still get the LMs that is).

Why not have some made to your own design.

Maybe a wheel that looks the same as the original Z3M wheel but in a 19" split rim?

I know of a company that undertakes such projects, just email them a pic of the original wheel with sizes and offsets of the wheels required.

They also do many different finishes, my choice would be Cromo Shadow

http://www.performancealloys.com/custom_wheels.asp

I spoke to them on the phone and he said this could be easily done. If you want the deep dish look make sure you tell them in the first email so they can get the design right straight away.

P.s.. If the above isnt of interest you may like to know they also stock the BBS LM's

I'd go for BBS Challenge wheels on the ///M.

namatjira has them on his ///M and they look awesome! I think they'd work well with Estoril. Photoshop anyone?

I like the Challenge but they look too modern and bling for the Zed plus they remind me of the chav wheel of choice from the 90s, the TSW Venom..

I think what you are proposing look great G but they need the BMW badges.
The size issue would worry me though. I just would not be prepared to compromise the handling for larger wheels. Fine if you don't drive it much like Terry though

The originals in shadow chrome still look great to me,
