... or I would have done if it wasn't for those pesky kids at HPI and the MOT website - darn it.

Before 111,071 miles and needing a service

Now, just 14,792 miles and 5 green lights :D .

Being a digital dash I'm sure this isn't hard to do.. Does make you question how many of our Zeds have been done?

As Gazza guessed it's a 2nd hand instrument cluster. I've also fitted a Z3 steering wheel (I don't like big airbags in front of me - big funbags on the other hand  ). Both were £100 combined.

I was surprised that the cluster kept it's original mileage. I'd been told that the highest mileage between the ECU and the cluster would overwrite the display - obviously not.

The new cluster was on OIL SERVICE and the amber light, so I reset it using a reset tool I made...

There is a 470 ohm resistor in series with the wire that passes from Pin 7 to Pin 19 via the push switch. Connect diagnostic cap on tool to car, ign to position 2, press button for either 4 or 11 seconds, ign off, replace car's cap. Job done. All can be done from inside the cabin, so you can watch the dash while you are doing the reset.

You should market the tool ;)

I finally managed to get the mileage set to the correct reading.

A youth with a £25k resetting tool and a laptop full of instruction pdfs managed to do it. If it had been a pre SW24 cluster it could have been done via the EOBD port alone. Instead he had to open the cluster an short out an IC to "open the door" to the software. Having watched what he had to I don't begrudge him his £50 :D .

So, 5 green lights and the correct mileage :) .

This makes very good reading for my case, I just hope I can find a lad in Ireland capable of performing this on mine.

The guy who carried out the work on my car recently told me you couldn't recode the clocks, obviously he's not on this website. Can't wait to get home and get my clocks organised and replace the lamps needing replaced also.

Cheers for the heads up.
