Here's the latest £350.000.00 merc 6x6...yes 6 wheel drive...536bhp, and 0-60 in under 6 seconds...

And this was the last time Merc did a 6 wheeler...but only the rear 4 wheels were driven....

This time of year is really magic...summer has cooled a little, and autumn is turning the leaves...the daily highs are now closer to 20C than39C.......Skies are mostly big blues with a fresh breeze which kinda hints at the approach of winter.
A six x six would be an absolute pleasure right now for a 2 week trip up north and into Botswana...We have a fairly new reserve here which stradles the border between SA and Botswana...very rough and dry terrain and quite unlike the better known Kruger Park. A 6x6 would def be useful to haul the cold beers... :D

It ruins the styling but the boot space is great.

A long time ago there was a company called Stonefield who made 6X6 using I believe landrover parts.

Image

and there was Pinzgauer, latterly made for the MOD in the UK:

Pinzgauer was/is a great piece of kit. It cost nearly 3x what a Defender cost, but was virtually indestructible. When they first went into service in the Balkans, there was a hill that a Defender had rolled down and killed the occupants. A Pinzgauer rolled down the same hill and the only thing that went wrong was that the dipstick fell out. They put it back in the hole, and drove back up.

You don't use the brakes when descending a steep hill, you engage reverse and rev the engine  .

Happy days - It was my project and I wrote the parts list. Most of the parts are Mercedes or Volkswagen, so it may be a bit heavy on the emissions :D .
