Is a coupe that much better than a roadster?

Post by TR4man »

As a relative newcomer, can anyone explain to me why the Z3m coupes are worth so much more than the roadsters?

Usually ragtops fetch more than closed cars, but not with Z3Ms.

Why is that?

Regards

Rarity.... less were made and even less available now.
It is also a car that attracts a particular buyer, which means they can command more albeit for a longer wait to sell it.
I bet a dealer would not give as much for one, as they would use the above excuse to knock the price down, but use the same reason to sell it at a premium

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

It seems to me that there has been more coupes forsale than roadster lately...

Having driven both there isn't much differents between them regards handling..

Spot on, I agree

Yes less were made and dealers couldn't sell them. Not even bmw staff wanted them as company cars because when they got to the end of agreement they had to pay the shortfall which was always £3500+
Same as the E46 CSL but now look at them as well.

Interesting!
There were 986 rhd coupes and 991 rhd roadsters. So hardly any difference in production numbers.
Sapphire black/Imola red and black interior/ red roof/ S54 - the only RHD one made.

That's true if you only consider ///M cars, but the reality is that they are all Z3s and there were lots and lots of roadsters. The coupé's rarity isn't derived from what's under the bonnet as much as it does from the body shell.

So would I, but I don't think that with the mileage I do, I could make it pay as a "daily driver" :(

...and I actually prefer the coupe

I think the coupe isn't as nice looking in comparison with the roadster.

Also you get the best of both worlds with a roady.

Top down motoring, and with a hardtop a better looking coupe!

It's down to personal choice.

Regarding value, they are only worth what people are prepared to pay.

Condition and mileage are a big factor in the value.

Hm. If I had a quid for every time someone's said, 'what the (insert word of choice) is that? I've never seen one of those before.. is it a 2 litre?'
- or words to that effect. And I've only had my MC 3 weeks.

Probably an age thing, but they remind me of the Reliant Scimitar GTE SE5 - a very desirable & sporty car in the 1970s.

The older I get the more I like the coupe, having seen a few in the flesh they do grow on you.
